'Real Housewives'' Carole  Radziwill's Food Diary: What I Eat in a Day

Real Housewives of New York City's Carole Radziwill, a self-proclaimed "carb junkie," chronicles her meals for a day

Carole Radziwill is the first to admit that her body defies the assumed laws of nutrition.

“I am a carb junkie, which is strange because they claim carbs put on pounds — in which case my metabolic rate is extraordinary, and should be studied by a team of Swiss doctors,” Radziwill, 52, jokes to PEOPLE.

The Real Housewives of New York City star is a slender 5’6″, and while her boyfriend, vegan chef Adam Kenworthy, has turned her into a “reluctant vegan,” Radziwill often strays when he is not around.

“Adam has introduced me to vegan pizza and zucchini pasta and every sort of salad combination one can imagine,” Radziwill says. “All of which he makes taste almost as good as Nutella. Sadly, though — as evidenced by my breakfasts and lunches — when we are not together, I cheat.”

She also says she has adopted a slightly different food philosophy than Kenworthy.

“I don’t have a food philosophy other than: Everything tastes better with salt,” Radziwill says. “My diet reflects the fact that I grew up on pasta and carbs and the occasional piece of fruit in a family with five hungry kids. I learned to eat fast. My eating habits reflect a long and consistent belief that anything that can be eaten quick — and preferably standing up — is best.”

Dinner
At N.Y.C.’s Café Clover:
3 pieces of whole wheat sourdough bread with butter
2 soft shell crabs coated in chickpea flour, fried in avocado oil
1 cup of potato puree with unsalted butter
1 cup of steamed broccoli with butter and salt

Dessert
Roasted strawberries with lavender honey gelato and a butter sablee
Coffee with whole milk and 1 Splenda
8 oz. glass of Newman’s Own lemonade before bed

Total Calories: 2,000

The Verdict:
Radziwill’s meals are too sugar-heavy, says dietician Keri Glassman of nutritiouslife.com. “Sugar, sodium and chemicals, oh my!” Glassman says of Radziwill’s lunch. “Hot dogs are processed meat, one of the worst things you can eat. And cake? All sugar, on top of the not-so-great start to the food day.” Glassman had higher marks for Radziwill’s dinner, especially her side of steamed broccoli, but says that the fried crabs weren’t a great choice, even if it was made with avocado oil. “Anything fried becomes unhealthy!”

NOTE: It is recommended that women eat at least 1,200 calories per day, and men eat at least 1,800 calories per day.
