Police released a statement later in the day: "On June 18, 2024, at 12:37 AM, Justin R. Timberlake, age 43, of Tennessee, was observed operating a 2025 BMW southbound on Madison Street, failing to stop at a duly posted stop sign and failing to maintain his lane of travel."

The statement continued: "A traffic stop was initiated by a Police Officer from the Sag Harbor Village Police Department and upon investigation it was determined that Mr. Timberlake was operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition."

According to his arrest report obtained by PEOPLE, the hitmaker told authorities, "I had one martini and I followed my friends home."

After an officer initiated a traffic stop, they noted that Timberlake's "eyes were bloodshot and glassy, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath, he was unable to divide attention, he had slowed speech, he was unsteady afoot, and he performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests," per the arrest report.

Timberlake has not made a public statement about his arrest yet. He has two stops scheduled in Chicago on June 21 and June 22 amid his Forget Tomorrow world tour, and two scheduled in N.Y.C. on June 25 and June 26.

Meanwhile, his wife Jessica Biel, 42, was spotted on the set of her new Prime Video series, The Better Sister, hours after his arrest. A source told PEOPLE that Timberlake’s arrest was a "distraction" for the actress and that "she’s not happy" about it.

"She had to film yesterday. She doesn't like any attention on the family, especially not negative," the source said.

The source also said that Biel "loves" the "Cry Me a River" singer and "will always be by his side."

"He's a great dad and husband," the source said.

According to his website, Burke opened his own practice Edward Burke, Jr. & Associates in 2005 after having started private law practice in 1996. The law firm, based in Sag Harbor, New York, specializes in "criminal defense, negligence, real estate and zoning law."

Timberlake is expected back in court for a hearing on July 26.
