Kate Middleton Jokes Prince George 'Took Full Advantage' of Kid-Favorite Food at Rugby World Cup

Prince George's favorite food was previously said to be a different Italian dish

Kate Middleton says that her son Prince George has a taste for a kid-favorite dish!

The Princess of Wales, 41, made the revelation while chatting with officials at the 2023 Rugby World Cup quarterfinal between England and Fiji on Sunday at Stade Velodrome in Marseille, France. Prince William and Prince George, 10, watched Wales play Argentina the day prior, and rugby legend Sir Bill Beaumont CBE told Kate her eldest son enjoyed the pizza!

"He took full advantage," Princess Kate said in a behind-the-scenes clip that @RoyallyBelle_ shared on X. According to the fan blog, Kate told Beaumont that George had fun at the match and the World Rugby chairman replied, “He tucked into the pizza alright.”

“Yes, I know, I did hear that," Princess Kate said with a laugh as she moved down the line to shake hands.

Prince George made a surprise appearance with his dad at Stade Velodrome on Saturday, where they matched in navy suits and red ties to see Wales play. Prince William, 41, is the longtime patron of the Welsh Rugby Union and has brought Prince George along to sports events in the past.

In July, the father and son watched an England vs. Australia cricket match during the Ashes Test at Lord's in London, where Prince George was seen snacking on some pizza. The young prince took a bite of a slice from a personal pie-sized box while his dad chatted with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Kate previously said that all of her children — including Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5 — are also fans of pizza, and they have made the meal together at home.

"I've done that with George and Charlotte – making pizza dough," Kate once said. "They love it because they can get their hands messy."

However, celebrity chef Aldo Zilli previously revealed that Prince George's favorite meal is a different Italian dish.

"I'm waiting for the call because apparently [Prince William's] little boy's favorite is spaghetti carbonara, so I'm waiting for the call to go and cook it for him," Zilli told the Daily Mail in 2020.

While the Wales vs. Argentina quarterfinal likely didn’t turn out the way Prince William and Prince George hoped, as the Welsh team lost 17 to 29 and is now out of the World Cup, Princess Kate can continue cheering for England as the team advances in the tournament. The Princess of Wales proved to be a good luck charm for the squad on Sunday, as England beat Fiji 30 to 24.

Kate was all smiles from her spot in the stands during the hot match, and didn’t react to a matching moment with a fellow spectator! The Princess of Wales and Lady Hilary Beaumont (who is married to Sir Bill) sported the same white Zara blazer with gold buttons, and the twinning was unmissable they sat just a spot apart.

Though the Prince and Princess of Wales are a tight team, they share a lighthearted rugby rivalry and support two different squads. William has been patron of the Welsh Rugby Union since 2016, while Kate was named patron of the Rugby Football Union and Rugby Football League, which govern the game in England, in February 2022. Queen Elizabeth tapped her granddaughter-in-law for the royal roles that winter, redistributing positions previously held by Prince Harry following his step back from his working royal role in 2020.

While Prince George made his 2023 Rugby World Cup debut over the weekend — likely a half-term treat as he and his siblings Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, are currently on a break from the Lambrook School — the outings marked a royal return for his parents. In September, Prince William and Princess Kate traveled to France to separately attend Group Stage matches of the Rugby World Cup, which began Sept. 8. The Prince and Princess of Wales supported their respective rugby squads in early-round games and popped into the locker rooms after to congratulate the athletes.

Over the weekend, Kate and William again went behind the scenes to greet players after the matches.

As seen in photos posted to their joint Prince and Princess of Wales Instagram page, Princess Kate clapped with Team England athletes, who now move forward to the semifinal game against South Africa on Friday, while Prince William and Prince George shared a solemn chat with a member of the Welsh squad.

“What a weekend of Rugby 🏉,” courtiers captioned the snaps.
