Mariah Kennedy-Cuomo and Tellef Lundevall's big wedding celebration included several special nods to their families, including their 8-tier wedding cake!

The newlyweds, who tied the knot over the weekend at the Kennedy compound in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, celebrated their union with 400 of their closest friends and family.

The towering cake, made by Confectionery Designs located in Rehoboth, Mass., featured a lemon pound cake with raspberry cream filling, a chocolate pound cake with vanilla bean filling and strawberries, plus a layer of lemon curd.

When it came time to cut into the sweet treat, Kennedy-Cuomo, 29, stood on a ladder to reach the highest tier, just like members of her famous family have done in the past.

Eunice Kennedy Shriver climbed up to cut her 8-tier cake at her 1953 wedding to Sargent Shriver.

Her daughter, Maria Shriver, would do the same thing in 1986 when she married Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The newlyweds participated in an extensive tasting to find just the right flavors for their big day. Despite the cake's massive size, not a single piece was left by the end of the night.

The cake took days to make and was created in multiple steps. It was baked in advance, then the filling was made, then it was constructed onsite and each element was edible.

Due to the confection's height and weight, it required a custom-designed support system. Overall, including the support system, baking, icing piping and sugar flowers, it's estimated the cake took from 60 to 75 hours to complete — including a few sleepless nights.

The decadent cake was topped with a sterling silver bell with a red ribbon with the couple's engagement date engraved on it gifted by a close family friend of the bride.

After the wedding, Mariah;s mother Kerry Kennedy shared a photo of Eunice and her daughter. "Thank you Aunt Eunice Kennedy Shriver for inspiring the wedding cake! 🎂" she wrote.

In addition to iconic cake, Lundevall and Kennedy-Cuomo also brought a second back from Norway that they picked out with Lundevall's grandmother.

Kennedy-Cuomo and Lundevall's wedding celebration was a three-day affair. The weekend kicked off with a sailing race, welcome drinks, and a rehearsal dinner. Guests ate lobster on the water while many of the 18 groomsmen and bridesmaids spoke about the couple.

The wedding ceremony took place on the waterfront in Hyannis Port, and the couple exchanged heartfelt handwritten vows. Guests enjoyed Chatham cod, steak and lemon linguine during the reception, which took place beneath a tent lined with lights.
