Demi Lovato to Open Up About 2018 Overdose in New YouTube Docuseries 'Dancing with the Devil'

Demi Lovato is releasing her second YouTube docuseries.

On Wednesday, YouTube Originals announced a new documentary series about the 28-year-old artist, Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil — directed by Michael D. Ratner and produced by OBB Pictures and SB Projects.

A press release for the docuseries says it will provide "an honest look back at some of the most trying times in Lovato's life as she unearths her prior traumas and discovers the importance of her physical, emotional, and mental health."

Most notably, Lovato will be opening up for the first time about her near-fatal overdose in 2018 and its aftermath. Fans will be "granted unprecedented access" to Lovato's recovery, as well as her career over the last three years.

Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil is the "Sorry Not Sorry" singer's third documentary, and second with YouTube. In 2012 she released Stay Strong, which covered her rough recovery from purging and self-harming. Then in 2017, she debuted the YouTube biographical film, Simply Complicated, where she admitted she was on cocaine for the majority of filming Stay Strong.

"I was so honest in that documentary but I wasn't honest enough. And I think it was because I wasn't honest with myself," Lovato told PEOPLE exclusively in 2017 of Stay Strong and her decision to come forward with Simply Complicated.

"Yes, I did touch on issues and certain things that were real and true but I think the biggest problem was I was lying to myself," the former Disney Channel actress added. "And in this documentary, I'm 1000 percent sober and I get to really explain myself and apologize to my fans. There wasn't anything that was off-limits."

However, after six years sober, Lovato was rushed to a hospital from her Hollywood Hills home following a 911 call in July 2018, PEOPLE confirmed at the time. Audio of the call revealed the pop star was revived with Narcan — an emergency medication to reverse the effects of a narcotics overdose.

Last year, Lovato thanked her fans for the "patience" and support they gave her following the incident.

"I've really appreciated the patience the public has given me over the past year and a half to figure my s— out because I think the mistake I made when I was 18, when I went into treatment, was that I went back to work six months later," she said in the May 2020 cover story for Harper's Bazaar.

"But at the same time, I've also sat back on the sidelines for two years. I've kept my mouth shut, while the tabloids have run wild," the "Confident" crooner added.

Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil will premiere its first two episodes on March 23 on Lovato's YouTube Channel. New episodes will be released weekly the following two Tuesdays.
