Louis Tomlinson Welcomes a Son: 'He Is Healthy and Pretty Amazing'

The first One Direction baby has been born – and he’s “Perfect.”

Louis Tomlinson and Briana Jungwirth have welcomed their first child, a son, on Thursday, Jan. 21 in Los Angeles, a source close to Jungwirth tells PEOPLE exclusively.

The singer confirmed the news early Saturday morning via Twitter.

“I’m pleased to say my baby son was born yesterday. He is healthy and pretty amazing,” Tomlinson, 24, wrote. “I’m very happy!!”

In July, PEOPLE reported that the singer was expecting his first child with Jungwirth, a Los Angeles-based stylist.

“Louis is happy and very excited about becoming a dad and he thinks Briana will be an amazing mother,” a mutual friend of the two told PEOPLE.

“It was a surprise at first, but he and Briana are very, very close friends and this has brought them even closer.”

Tomlinson and Jungwirth met and briefly dated in last May following his split from longterm girlfriend Eleanor Calder that March.

Tomlinson has since been linked to reported girlfriend Danielle Campbell. Tomlinson was spotted with The Originals actress in Chicago days before Christmas, followed by a night out in London just before New Year’s.

Early Friday morning, Tomlinson’s former stepfather, Mark Tomlinson, sparked speculation that the new addition had arrived with a Tweet: “Is that the patter of tiny feet?” he wrote.

Now that the 1D guys are on an extended hiatus, Tomlinson will have some extra time on his hands to dote on his newborn son.

As the singer previously said, “It’s a very exciting time.”

A rep for Tomlinson could not be reached for comment.
