Weeks before Jordan Giorgio and her fiancé boarded their flight to Europe for their wedding, Giorgio had called the airline to confirm she could bring her wedding dress on board.

The agents she spoke with over the phone assured her it wouldn't be a problem. However, Giorgio, a sports broadcaster from Tampa, Florida, knew that the experience in person could differ, especially since the couple had a layover in Paris before reaching their final destination.

When the day finally arrived for Giorgio and her now-husband Anthony Paolini to fly from Florida to their wedding at Villa Balbiano in Lake Como, Italy, on July 1, Giorgio felt worried.

"Going through airport security turned out to be surprisingly smooth. They recognized it was a wedding dress and helped us safely get it through security," Giorgio, 28, tells PEOPLE.

After successfully making it to Paris with the dress intact, the couple boarded their last flight to Italy. However, things became challenging once on the smaller Air France plane from Paris to Milan.

"We boarded first and attempted to use the coat check, but the dress wouldn’t fit. Then, trying to stow it in the overhead bin proved futile — it was too small," Giorgio explains.

"That’s when I started to panic and feel nervous."

Fortunately, the plane's captain, Christine, came out from the cockpit and personally took Giorgio's dress to store upfront.

"Christine assured me she would secure it and buckled it up. She did it with a smile and even took time to chat with me after we landed, asking to see pictures," Giorgio recalls.

"I wasn’t nervous one bit because she made me feel like it was the safest place to put it and she showed me exactly how it was secured," she adds. "We sat in the first row of the plane and I didn't check on it once."

Upon arriving in Italy, Giorgio posted a TikTok video recounting her experience with the pilot and showing the dress safely stowed in the cockpit.

She aimed to highlight the supportive interaction between women and commend Christine, not just as a pilot, but as a captain who went above and beyond in her role.

But. to Giorgio's surprise, the video quickly went viral, amassing over 6.5 million views.

"It was unlike any other destination wedding dress travel story I have ever heard," Giorgio says. "Most flights, you don’t even get to meet or see the pilot who is getting you safely to your destination, so to have that kind of personal attention was incredible."

"I thought it was even cooler that as a woman, she was looking out for another woman who was clearly nervous heading to the biggest day of her life," she continues.

After the video gained traction, Christine reached out to Giorgio on Instagram.

"She sent me a DM saying, 'Hello, I was your pilot on your flight to Milan. A friend sent me the video on TikTok this morning and I just wanted to thank you for this great video. Have a wonderful day and wedding, of course … I can’t wait to see this princess dress,' " Giorgio says the message read.
