Princess Anne Joins World Royals in Group Photo at Olympic Meeting in Paris — Can You Find Her?

A kickoff meeting for the 2024 Paris Olympics doubled as a reunion for royals from around the world.

On July 23, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) began its 142nd session at the Palais des Congrès de Paris before the global games will begin on Friday, July 26. Princess Anne, Prince Albert of Monaco and Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg are among the royals of the 105-member committee esteemed as "the guardian of the Olympic Games and the leader of the Olympic Movement." The group came together for a group photo with members of the 2024 Refugee Olympic Team, per a translation.

A close look showed Princess Anne, 73, in the back row of the photo towards the right side of the image, in her first international appearance following her hospitalization last month for a horse-related "incident." King Charles' sister began a gradual return to royal duties after being discharged from the hospital on June 28 after an accident that happened on June 23.

The Princess Royal sustained a concussion and minor injuries in the incident that occurred at her Gatcombe Park home. While the exact details are unable to be ascertained because of her concussion, Princess Anne's injuries were consistent with a potential impact from a horse's head or legs.

Queen Elizabeth's daughter has a special connection to the Olympics as a former competitor, and she made history when she rode for Team Great Britain at the Montreal Summer Games in 1976 as the first member of the British royal family to participate in the Olympics. But she's not the only royal member of the IOC with an Olympic history.

Prince Albert of Monaco of Monaco, 66, entered bobsledding at the Winter Olympics five times from 1988 to 2002, with a top finish of 25th in 1988 in the two-man event. In another tie to the highest level of sport, Princess Albert's wife, Princess Charlene, swam for her home country of South Africa at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. A few years later, the two made their debut as a couple at the 2006 Olympics in Turin, Italy. 

Prince Albert smiled in the group shot towards the right in a center row of the IOC photo, not far from Grand Duke Henri in the middle. A few people away from the Grand Duke (who recently revealed more about the transfer of power to his eldest son Prince Guillaume this fall) was another familiar face: Academy Award-winning actress Michelle Yeoh, who was elected to the IOC in 2023.

Towards the right of Yeoh was Princess Nora of Liechtenstein, who holds a crown of her own within the committee as its longest-serving member. The princess, 73, has been involved since 1984. 

Other royal members of the IOC at the key meeting were Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani of Qatar and Princess Reema Bandar Al-Saud of Saudi Arabia. Prince Feisal Al Hussein of Jordan and Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck of Bhutan are also on the Olympic Commission, whose meeting is due to continue on July 24.

With the Olympic Games being held in Paris this year, many European royals are expected to attend.

It's not often that royalty from around the world convenes in one place, and the group shot from Paris called back to an instantly iconic picture from a royal wedding last summer. The nuptials of Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan to Princess Rajwa on June 1, 2023 was an epic royal event with Kate Middleton, Prince William, Princess Beatrice, King Frederik of Denmark and his wife, Queen Mary, Prince Guillaume, Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden and many more in attendance.  

The shot was snapped before the evening banquet at Al Husseiniya Palace in Amman and uniquely united many of the world’s royals and heirs to modern monarchies in one frame. With the royal contingent clad in their evening finery plus plenty of tiaras, the wedding memory might be the ultimate royal group picture.
