Sweden has a brand new royal baby prince – and proud dad Prince Carl Philip is sharing personal details about the emotional birth.

Just hours after he and Princess Sofia welcomed their newborn son on Tuesday, Carl Philip spoke to reporters in a press conference at Danderyd Hospital in Stockholm.

When asked if he had cried during the birth, the prince replied, “Yes, actually. Of course. Couldn’t stop.”

“For me and my wife, this is obviously a great day with a lot of emotion,” he said. “Words cannot describe.”

The proud new parents offered a sneak peek of their son in a new photo they shared on the palace’s Facebook page. The casually-dressed couple flash huge smiles as they hold the baby prince in his car seat in the sweet snap. “We’re all feeling good and looking forward to time together,” the caption reads.

Carl Philip’s big sister Princess Victoria shared a similar snap as she left the hospital after the birth of baby Prince Oscar last month.

Carl Philip said it’s too soon to tell who the newborn looks like, but he did reveal that he’s dark-haired! The prince also revealed that he cut the umbilical cord himself. “We are so excited,” he shared.

The prince seemed to borrow a move from brother-in-law Prince Daniel – who recently welcomed his first son, Prince Oscar – when he animatedly used his hands to show the size of his newborn. (The baby prince weighed in at 7 lbs., 9 oz. and 19.3 inches long!)

Now, the royal family is celebrating the birth of Carl Philip and Sofia s first child.

King Carl XVI Gustaf canceled a planned trip, opting instead to visit the young family before at the hospital.

“It’s marvelous, everything went well,” the king told the Swedish newspaper Expressen. “The important thing is that Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip and their little son are all thriving. The boy looks cute, very nice.”

Meanwhile, Queen Silvia is flying back from New York, where she was told of her new grandson’s arrival during a UN meeting, and is expected to return to Stockholm on Thursday, according to Palace spokeswoman Margareta Thorgren.

Crown Princess Victoria, her husband Prince Daniel and the new prince’s adorable cousin, Princess Estelle congratulated the new family of three with a touching message on the palace s official website: “We wish Carl Philip and Sofia a wonderful first time with their newborn son, and rejoice with the new parents.”

King Carl XVI Gustaf is expected to announce the baby’s names and title after meeting government ministers on April 21.
