All Eyes on Her! Queen Silvia Outshines Everyone in Glittering Nobel Peace Prize Look

The Swedish royal family were the guests of honor who stole the show at the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony in Stockholm on Saturday.

The family matriarch, Queen Silvia, shined in a shimmery silver ballgown, and her daughter, Crown Princess Victoria, wore a coordinating one-shouldered gown with gold accents.

The men of the family — King Carl XVI Gustaf, Victoria’s husband Prince Daniel and Prince Carl Philip — were all decked out in formal white tie. All members of the royal family also donned royal order sashes.

Silvia sparkled from tiara to toe, as she wore a large statement necklace that matched her glittering topper. Meanwhile, Victoria donned a cut steel and gilt brass crown designed with feathers, flowers, oak leaves and acorns.

Victoria’s sister-in-law, Princess Sofia, attended the event wearing a steel-cut bandeau tiara, which had previously been worn by Victoria. Sofia paired her tiara with an emerald green ball gown.

And while the Nobel Prizes in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Economic Sciences and Literature were awarded in Stockholm, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded in Oslo, Norway.

This year’s Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos, gave his laureate lecture on establishing peace in war-torn areas and rethinking the War on Drugs.

“When people asked me whether I aspired to win the Nobel Peace Prize, I always answered that, for me, the actual prize was peace in Colombia,” Santos said. “Because that is the real prize: peace for my country!”

He continued, speaking about the steps leading to his prestigious award — which he called a “gift from heaven” — and said, “The Colombian peace agreement is a ray of hope in a world troubled by so many conflicts and so much intolerance. It proves that what, at first, seems impossible, through perseverance may become possible even in Syria or Yemen or South Sudan.”

One attendee who was noticeably absent was Bob Dylan, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in Literature. Singer Patti Smith performed Dylan’s song “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall” in his place.

The Swedish Academy confirmed Dylan’s non-attendance to the press last month, notingthat they had received a letter from the enigmatic musical icon saying he was unable to attend the December ceremony “due to pre-existing commitments.”
