Diamonds, aquamarines and emeralds, oh my!

The Swedish royals – and their crown jewels – came out in full force for one of the country’s biggest nights of the year, the Nobel Prize Banquet, held annually in Stockholm to honor the year’s Nobel prize winners.

For the state banquet, the family went full-on royal – which means yes, there were lots of glittering gems on display. All four of the Swedish royal ladies – Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria, Princess Madeleine and Princess Sofia – wore tiaras for the occasion.

It was an especially exciting night for new royal Princess Sofia, who is expecting her first child with husband Prince Carl Philip next April. The event was her first-ever state banquet, and for the occasion, she rewore her diamond-and-emerald wedding tiara, which was a gift from her in-laws. Her husband dressed up for the banquet in a sleek black tuxedo as well.

Her sister-in-law, Princess Madeleine‘s headpiece of choice was the Aquamarine Kokoshnik tiara, while Queen Silvia wore the Nine Prong Tiara, which contains 500 diamonds and is regarded as one of her favorites.

But it was first in line to the throne Crown Princess Victoria, who had the most elaborate accessories of all. She wore the Connaught Diamond Tiara paired with glittering purple necklace-and-earring set. And on the back of her up-do she pinned another (giant) gemstone.

Victoria also showed off her baby bump in an elegant burgundy dress. The royal is expecting her second child with husband Prince Daniel in March of next year – just one month before Sofia and Carl Philip! Victoria and Daniel are already parents to Princess Estelle, 3.

The banquet, held at Stockholm’s City Hall, had over 1600 guests in a flower-filled room who watched this year’s Nobel Prize winners receive their awards from King Carl Gustaf.
