Shannen Doherty Says It's 'Hard' for Her to Date with Cancer as She's 'a Very Hard Sell'

Shannen Doherty has some hesitation when it comes to opening her heart up again.

The 53-year-old actress is currently living with stage 4 breast cancer, and she doesn't know if a relationship is in the cards right now.

"I'm a very hard sell," Doherty admitted to Kelly Ripa on the June 26 episode of her Let's Talk Off Camera podcast.

"I think it's hard for somebody like me, in my personal opinion, because it's hard to go into dating someone when you know that they might have an expiration date," she said, referring to her cancer journey.

Doherty said that "most men" don't "handle death and illness ... as well as women do," and that adds complications to her situation.

Ripa, 53, then asked the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum for an update on her treatment, to which Doherty shared that she feels like "a guinea pig on a wheel."

"You just keep on spinning the wheel, and you hope that your protocol lasts a really long time and you get the most out of it. But, inevitably, a protocol will stop working, and then you have to move on to the next," she said, noting that the treatment she's currently doing is "probably one of the harder ones physically."

Ripa has had her sights set on setting Doherty up for a while now, as the actress revealed on her podcast, Let's Be Clear with Shannen Doherty, earlier this year.

“Kelly is awesome because I just saw her when I did her show and at the commercial break, she was like, ‘Are you ready? Are you ready to date? Are you ready for a boyfriend? I'm going to find you someone,’” Doherty said. “She started asking me, ‘Like what's your list? What do you need?' She was like, 'Oh, I think I got somebody in mind.’”

Doherty added, “I was like, dude, just text me and you can. You're one hundred percent the right person to start setting me up. I'm fine with that.”

In November, Doherty told PEOPLE that she was ready to find love again following her split from her third husband, Kurt Iswarienko.

“I don’t think I’m going to be single forever," she said. "I have to love myself and reckon with the past, really, before I can move forward, and now I’m pretty sure I’ll meet somebody — hopefully soon.”
