Rita Ora Says She's Faced 'Complications' With Getting Certain Designers to Dress Her

Rita Ora has become a high-fashion fixture — and now she has her very own shoe collection with famed footwear designer Giuseppe Zanotti to prove it! But in a new interview, she admits that it wasn't always easy getting certain designers to dress her body type, revealing she's encountered "complications" with the red carpet dressing process.

"There were complications, yes, because you have to adapt to your body," Ora tells PEOPLE at the launch of her Giuseppe Zanotti collection on Thursday. "I feel like I've never looked at it as a personal attack towards me because this is who I am and this is always who I am going to be and I've never changed for anybody. I think consistency is key. I don't take clothes not fitting me personally, I just find something that fits and I wear the s—t out of it. I feel like that's what it takes to be a trailblazer and trendsetter."

She says one thing that made it easier for her to rock her own red carpet vibe is the rapid pace of the changing fashion landscape. "You don't really know where fashion is going next, so I think with that door being left open, it gives us, myself and a good friend of mine, Ashley Graham, and even artists like Bebe Rexha, and all my friends hope to feel like there's no rules," Ora says. "I think that's what makes this [time] so exciting."

She also embraces up-and-coming designers to help her experiment and push herself on the red carpet.

"I'm down for working with designers that are brand spanking new, that just left fashion school like [Central] Saint Martins or are still at fashion school. For me, I think that's really where I started. I started wearing student clothes from fashion designers that were still in school and I saw them grow. My doors are never closed, really."

One way she got such bold confidence is through her mother, who she says is very "confident in her own skin."

"My mom has so much self belief," she explains. "She refuged from Kosovo to the UK and became an incredible psychiatrist whilst battling breast cancer. She turned out to be this human like I've never seen. She is so sexy, dances around all day and likes to have a drink with me and dance with my dad and they make out in front of me and it's gross. But that's really the type of confidence you need. My mom's in her 50s – she's going to hate me saying that – but for me, that's what I want to be like."

For now, Ora is focused on giving a touch of her bold style to the masses. She recently embarked on a very fashionably endeavor with shoe legend Giuseppe Zanotti for their .

The line contains a variety of styles including a stiletto sandals, knee-length and peep-toe boots and slip-on flats that range from $795 to $2,495 for the boot.

"We met in the summer of last year, and I've been wearing Giuseppe's shoes for God knows how many years," Ora shares. "For my last tour, actually, we had some custom shoes done for my shows and I fell in love. I fell in love with the team, I fell in love with him, and I knew that, subconsciously, we had a lot of things in common."

Ora says that once they finally met it was "really, really super lovely. The electricity was there and it was kind of inevitable that something was going to come out of it. I felt very honored to be a part of the long legacy that he has had for all of these years, so it was a no-brainer for me."

Zanotti says working with Ora was "easy" and that they came to the same vision when it came to the design process.

"She loves chains because she has personality, character," says Zanotti. "I tried to interpret the chain idea and attitude in a good new balance for shoes. But not in an extreme way, because also she's elegant. She's very elegant. I think we need to respect also the identity when you work together. That was, for me, very important to work with her."
