Inside 'Bachelorette' Contestant Lee Garrett's Alleged Racist Tweets

The Bachelorette suitor Lee Garrett has come under fire after a series of tweets alleged to be from his Twitter account feature offensive messages, including racially charged insults

The 30-year-old Nashville native has sparked outrage after old tweets surfaced in which he allegedly advised his followers to “Never trust a female liberal” and allegedly described the Black Lives Matter movement as a terrorist group.

The alleged remarks are particularly surprising considering Garett is participating in a season of the show that marks the Bachelor franchise’s first African American lead, Dallas-born lawyer Rachel Lindsay, as well as one of the franchise’s most diverse casts ever.

Although Garrett’s Twitter account is private, screenshots taken by one user show messages that are claimed to be from as early as July 2015.

“What’s the difference between the NAACP [National Association for the Advancement of Colored People] and the KKK [Ku Klux Klan]? Wait for it….. One has the sense of shame to cover their racist ass faces,” he allegedly tweeted in 2015.

In another tweet, Garrett allegedly wrote: “Guys … when is the last time YOU actually saw a pretty feminist? There is a reason for this.”

In other posts, tweeted in 2016, Garrett allegedly declared, “I do hate Islam,” and expressed his wholehearted support for “inhumane torture of terrorists.”

Although the latest installment of the hit ABC show is just getting underway, a sneak peek at the new season showed Garrett clashing with several other contestants.

Neither ABC nor Lindsay have commented on the tweets, and Garrett did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

The Bachelorette airs Mondays (8 p.m. ET) on ABC.
