In an exclusive sneak peek at the season 12 premiere, newcomer Jerod Sechrist learns exactly how much one wrong crab can cost the crew. “Having one female in a whole tank of crab, we could get fined tens of thousands of dollars,” explains Wichrowski’s son Zach Larson after he spots Sechrist accidentally letting a female slip by. “Can you sort King crab or not?” he asks. “Do you know the differences between a male and a female?” In an effort to help keep the population of King crab healthy, only males are allowed to be harvested, so being able to quickly tell the difference between the two is a must-have skill on the fishing boat. The two-hour season 12 premiere of Deadliest Catch, airs Tuesday at 9 P.M. on the Discovery Channel.
