Jada Pinkett Smith Empathizes with Jordyn Woods: 'It's Easy to Target Black Women'

"You know what they say? Black women can be the most disregarded and disrespected creatures on the earth," Jada Pinkett Smith said

Jada Pinkett Smith is helping family friend Jordyn Woods navigate life in the wake of the Tristan Thompson scandal.

On Friday, Pinkett Smith’s Red Table Talk interview with Kylie Jenner‘s longtime best friend aired on Facebook Watch. In the video, Woods broke her silence about the night she spent at Khloé Kardashian‘s boyfriend’s home after a night of partying

Woods, 21, claimed she and the Cleveland Cavaliers player did not have sex and only kissed nearly two weeks ago. Still, the incident isolated her from the Kardashian/Jenner family.

“I have to deal with my family and all the people I hurt. That family also has to deal with the hurt,” she said.

While Woods took responsibility for allowing herself to be at Thompson’s home late at night, she believes her mistakes have been exaggerated.

“This story that didn’t have to be what it was turned into the biggest scandal or betrayal of the year. I’ve seen what has been done to my life in only a week based on how the media circulates. They don’t put their focus on the real-world problems. They are putting their focus on a young black women who made a mistake,” Woods said. “And not a mistake that’s worth public crucifixion. It’s a mistake that should have been dealt with internally.”

Having been in the spotlight for more than two decades, Pinkett Smith, 47, has encountered racism and sexism, which has allowed her to empathize with elements of Woods’ scenario.

“You know what they say? Black women can be the most disregarded and disrespected creatures on the earth,” said Pinkett Smith, who has known Woods for her entire life because the model’s late father was a sound engineer on husband Will Smith‘s show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Pinkett Smith also shared that she knows how it feels to be targeted because of her race.

“You know, being a black woman in the game for so long as I’ve been, just seeing that without people even having heard your side and just not giving the benefit of the doubt, it just always seems like it’s so easy to just target black women and put everything on us — even if there’s other people involved,” Pinkett Smith continued.

Woods, said she hadn’t encountered the reality of being targeted until news of the affair broke.

“It took me getting here to feel that ,because I saw it, but I never felt it,” she explained.

During the sit-down, Woods detailed that on Feb. 17, she dined with some friends and then went to a bar afterwards, where there was a party going on.

“I was minding my business, dancing, drinking,” she said. “Tristan was there, he was doing his own thing. That was it.”

After the bar, Woods said they all went to a house party. She said she didn’t realize it was at Thompson’s house until they were on their way there.

“I’m like, cool, that’s okay. It feels like a safe environment,” she said. “I’d rather it be his house than a random stranger.”

Woods said that was her first mistake: “I’m not thinking I shouldn’t be here,” she said. “That’s my first step where I went wrong. [I wasn’t thinking about] how I would feel if someone close to me is hanging out at my ex’s house or the father of my child. I didn’t think about that. That’s the first part of the problem.”

“I should have gone home after the party,” she said. “I shouldn’t even have been there.”

At the house, Woods said she and Thompson, 27, hung out with a group of people.

“Never once was I giving him a lap dance, making out with him, sitting all over him,” she said. “It’s just, we’re all together, we’re in a group. Never once did we leave a public area, go to a bedroom, go to a bathroom. We’re all in plain sight.”

Woods said she ended up staying at Thompson’s house until 6 o’clock in the morning.

When she was leaving, Woods said Thompson kissed her. “On the way out, he did kiss me,” she said, clarifying that there was “no passion, no nothing … he just kissed me.”

“It was like a kiss on the lips, but no tongue kiss, no making out,” she said. “Nothing. But I don’t think that he’s wrong either, because I allowed myself to be in that position. And when alcohol’s involved, people make dumb moves or people get caught up in the moment.”

She also adamantly denied having sex with Thompson.

The next day, while she told Jenner and Kardashian that she had been at Thompson’s house, she didn’t tell them what happened. Woods said she was “trying to protect Khloé’s heart.”

On Friday morning, Kardashian, who shares 10-month-old daughter True with Thompson, responded to the interview on Twitter.

“Why are you lying @jordynwoods ?? If you’re going to try and save yourself by going public, INSTEAD OF CALLING ME PRIVATELY TO APOLOGIZE FIRST, at least be HONEST about your story. BTW, You ARE the reason my family broke up!” tweeted Kardashian.

She continued, “Tristan is equally to blame but Tristan is the father of my child. Regardless of what he does to me I won’t do that to my daughter. He has been addressing this situation PRIVATELY. If Tristan were to lie publicly about what conspired, [sic] then yes I would address him publicly as well.”
