Jenny McCarthy Says Husband Donnie Wahlberg Is 'the Best'

Look who’s still in the honeymoon phase!

Jenny McCarthy‘s still as smitten as ever when it comes to husband Donnie Wahlberg.

“Every night when we go to bed and I climb in bed and I see him laying there, I go, ‘The feeling I get crawling in bed with you every night is like when I was little and my mom used to say your best friend can sleep over tonight,’ ” McCarthy told PEOPLE in N.Y.C. Thursday while promoting her upcoming SiriusXM show, Dirty, Sexy, Funny with Jenny McCarthy. “He definitely brings out the best in me, and I think I do the same for him.”

“Is she talking about our dog?” joked Wahlberg.

Along with enjoying hot chocolate together every evening, the couple‘s bedtime routine includes a go-to cuddle position.

“He’s on his back and my head is on his chest, and his arm is around me,” says the star. “I say, ‘I love you,’ he says, ‘I love you, too,’ and we kiss and we fall asleep in that position. And I want to say more times than not, we wake up in that same position.”

“I’d say about 75 percent of the time,” confirmed Wahlberg.

McCarthy, 41, and Wahlberg, 45, tied the knot on Aug. 31 in St. Charles, Illinois. And McCarthy isn’t the only one over the moon to have Wahlberg around: Her son Evan, 12, loves having the comedian as a stepdad.

“I had a conversation with Evan, saying, ‘How’s it going with Donnie as your stepdad?’ And he said, ‘You know, I finally feel safe,’ ” says McCarthy. “And to me as a single mom, it felt like I did my job – not only really holding out to find the best stepdad for him, but also for me, the best husband out there.”

“He’s got overall heat,” she says. “You know, you either got it or you don’t, and he’s got it.”
