Josh Duggar‘s family announced on their website Wednesday that he is currently at “a long-term treatment center” in an effort to achieve “wholeness and recovery.”

The 27-year-old checked into the facility less than a week after his bombshell revelation that he’d developed an addiction to pornography and cheated on his wife, Anna – but this isn’t the first time Josh has received treatment for sexual misbehavior.

In 2003, after confessing to his father Jim Bob that he had molested five underage girls, including his sisters Jill and Jessa, Josh was sent to the Institute of Basic Life Principles Training Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Jim Bob made the decision to send his son to the Christian ministry-run facility after consulting the elders of his church.

The patriarch told Megyn Kelly that he was thinking at the time that “we had done everything we can as parents to handle this in-house. We need to get help.”

Then 15 years old, Josh resided at the center for three months in 2003, participating in manual labor and intensive prayer.

The police report detailing the molestation states that Josh’s parents chose IBLP, which was founded and run by Bill Gothard before he resigned amid sexual harassment allegations last year, because they were “concerned” other programs would leave Josh “exposed to other offenders and other things that they did not want him exposed to.” Instead, they opted for a religious program that incorporated “hard physical work and counseling.”

The Daily Mail spoke to the controversial IBLP founder last month, and the 80-year-old detailed the program he claimed “cleansed” Josh of his tendencies.

“Josh was put to work helping with the renovations and learning about carpentry and on the side being instructed spiritually,” Gothard told the outlet about Josh’s work on a hospital that the IBLP was restoring.

According to Gothard, Josh also received “lust counseling.” Michelle admitted in the police report that the counselor Josh worked with was not certified.

The IBLP Training Center was once under investigation by local Child Protective Services, and the institute’s methodology has been the subject of criticism from former students and concerned members of the public. John Krull, Executive Director of the Indiana Civil Liberties Union called the “appalling” center a “shadow world, where these kids almost disappear.” The institute has denied any maltreatment.

In her interview with Megyn Kelly, Josh’s sister Jill implied that he may have received certified treatment outside of IBLP.

“We all went through professional counseling, but Josh did, too,” she told the Fox News host. “He had to pay for his own.”
