Kristin Cavallari Says 'Most' of Her Storyline on 'The Hills' 'Wasn't Real'

Laguna Beach alum Kristin Cavallari joined the cast of The Hills in season 5 to replace Lauren Conrad

Kristin Cavallari is pulling back the curtain on The Hills.

Appearing on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Wednesday, the reality star was asked for her reaction to former costar Whitney Port recently revealing that the famous trip to Paris from season 1 of the MTV show never actually happened.

“This is the first I’m hearing about this. That was pre-my time,” said Cavallari, 32, who joined the cast in season 5 to replace Lauren Conrad.

“I’ve never heard that before, but I can tell you most of my stuff wasn’t real,” she added with a laugh. “I’m just happy that more people are coming out and saying that stuff isn’t real, because for the longest time it was only me. So thank you, Whitney.”

The Hills premiered on MTV in 2006, following the lives of a group of friends in Los Angeles. It ran for six seasons, concluding in 2010 with a series finale that left fans debating whether it was real or fake. In the final moments, after an emotional street scene underneath the iconic Hollywood sign, the camera pulled back to reveal a sound stage and camera crew — intended, creator Adam DiVello later revealed, as a wink to the show’s more skeptical viewers.

In an interview with Vogue in March, Port, 34, dropped a bombshell revelation about the Paris trip. On the show, after being offered the opportunity to spend the summer interning at the Vogue office in Paris, Conrad opted to stay behind to focus on then-boyfriend, Jason Wahler. Port was chosen to go in her place and the two filmed a grand departure scene curbside at LAX.

According to Port, they both turned around and went right back home once it was over.

“That was so ridiculous,” Port said. “It wasn’t an ideal situation, but I thought, okay, this is good for me because I really was pursuing a career in fashion. I thought it showed that I was down and determined to do this. It was very Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs [fromThe Devil Wears Prada]. I got dressed up in an airport look and went for it.”

Now, the cast of The Hillsminus Conrad and Cavallari — are reuniting for a rebooted version of the show, premiering this summer on MTV. The Hills: New Beginnings, the stars told Vogue, is about getting a real look inside their lives.

Also joining the cast is Mischa Barton, former star of Fox’s The O.C., which inspired MTV’s Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, which eventually spun off into The Hills.

On WWHL, Cavallari said she’s looking forward to seeing how Barton will mesh with the rest of the cast.

“It’s interesting,” she said. “I’m curious like everybody else to see it. I can’t wait.”

As for who Barton might have a tough time with?

“I heard Stephanie Pratt is sort of stirring the pot,” Cavallari said.

Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen airs Sunday-Thursday (11 p.m. ET) on Bravo and The Hills: New Beginnings premieres June 24 on MTV.
