For her March 9 wedding to boyfriend of two years Zandy Reich at Napa’s Carneros Resort in California, Lea Michele walked down the aisle in a custom Monique Lhuillier dress fit for a princess.

She chose a strapless gown with structural sweetheart neckline and silk gazar draped over the corset-style bodice. The voluminous hand-tufted skirt and cathedral-length veil made from hand-appliquéd lace created the ultimate fairytale silhouette.

“The last [dress] I tried on was that one that I saw online and I absolutely loved it. In the entire wedding process, that was one of my most favorite moments, being at that fitting with Brad, and with my mom, and letting my mom see me wearing my wedding dress for the first time was so magical," Michele told PEOPLE.

Of her entire bridal look, Michele told PEOPLE, “My dress is very classic, which was very important to me. It’s important to [Zandy and me] that we look back on our photos, and that they’re classic. I wanted to stay away from a lot of current trends.”

In a nod to tradition, the pair spent the night before their big day apart, and when Michele first saw Reich standing beneath a white ranunculus and garden-rose-adorned chuppah, “it was as if nobody else was there,” a guest told PEOPLE. “As Lea walked toward him, they looked so lovingly at each other. . . . It [had] poured rain before the wedding, but when it was time for the ceremony, the sky opened up and the sun shone in. It was all perfect.

For bands, “I went with classic gold,” said Reich, while Michele opted for simple diamonds, both from XIV Karats, and a thin gold band underneath to honor Jewish tradition. “I didn’t want to take attention away from the beautiful (engagement) ring Zandy created for me,” she said.

The bride and groom each had their own signature cocktail: Michele’s was a vodka martini, and Reich, a Philadelphia native, picked a Manhattan cheekily named “Don’t Tell Philly: Zandy’s favorite… Manhattan.”

The couple cut into a gorgeous two-tier white wedding cake while Barbra Streisand’s “Happy Days Are Here Again” played in the background. The simple confection, a light vanilla flavored cake with raspberry filling and buttercream icing, featured just three white flowers. It sat on a stand covered with vintage sheet music as a nod to Michele’s musical background.

To accompany the wedding cake, the pair served Italian-style desserts like biscotti, chocolate cannoli, and amaretto cookies to coordinate with the Tuscan theme of the entire event put on by wedding planner Lisa Vorce.
