Another Period

stars Natasha Leggero and Riki Lindhome are known to watch episodes of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, but they want to be clear why they’re doing it.

As one of the creators of a comedy based on the premise of “if the Kardashians moved into Downton Abbey,” Leggero admits she watched the E! reality show, “but only for research purposes.”

“I want to be clear: I hate the Kardashians, personally,” she tells PEOPLE.

But her co-creator has a different point of view: “Ricky doesn’t horror-watch it, she just watch-watches it,” says Leggero. “She really sees the good in the Kardashians.”

“They’re really feminists,” says Lindhome. “They’ve created this business and industry out of nowhere. And They didn’t depend on any men to do what they did.”

Heading into season 2 of their Comedy Central show, Lindhome and Leggero say their characters are similarly going after what they want.

“We’re two socialites trying to get famous,” says Leggero. “But in 1902, it’s really hard because there is no social media. It becomes a very slow and involved process.”

“But we’re at risk of losing our family fortune,” Lindhome says. “So we’re even a little more desperate now.”

Season 2 will also bring an intense rivalry in the form of Harriet Tubman.

“The first season we had Helen Keller and we just hated her, but this year Harriet Tubman comes in and we are all trying to make names for ourselves,” says Leggero.

Season 2 of Another Period premieres Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET on Comedy Central.
