Watch Simu Liu Perform 'I'm Just Ken' from Barbie Live: 'My Dream Come True'

Simu Liu performed "I'm Just Ken" and "Push" from the 'Barbie' soundtrack, as well as songs from his recent EP, at Los Angeles' The Hotel Cafe on Wednesday

Simu Liu is Kenough.

The Barbie actor, 34, appeared at Los Angeles music venue The Hotel Cafe on Wednesday to perform a variety of songs from his recently released EP ANXIOUS-AVOIDANT along with a full band. At the show, Liu — who plays one of many Kens in Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling's blockbuster hit — also paid tribute to the movie by performing Matchbox Twenty's "Push," and "I'm Just Ken," the number Gosling sings himself at a pivotal moment in the film.

"Repeat after me: I. Am. Kenough," Liu can be seen saying on stage before he launched into "I'm Just Ken," in videos of the performance shared to social media. The Shang-Chi star leaned into the spirit of the Kendom during his performance, at one point asking the audience, "Are you ready to feel the Kenergy with me tonight? Let's do this. You are Kenough! You are Kenough!"

At another point in Wednesday night's show, Liu jokingly introduced "Push" by asking the audience, "Do you mind if I play some guitar for you? Sick!" in reference to a scene in Barbie in which all the Kens sing Matchbox Twenty's 1997 single.

"what a joy it was to sing, laugh and ken around with the (sold out!) crowd at the hotel cafe," Liu wrote in an Instagram post regarding the performance. "to everyone who bought a ticket and came out, know that you are a part of a core memory and my dream come true!"

"there are a multitude of people without whom this would never have been possible; you know who you are and you know how deeply and eternally grateful i am for you," he added in a caption. "thank you all, you ARE kenough, and let’s run it back in the new year!!!"

Liu has sought to widen his horizons beyond acting since his star significantly rose after he joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe to star as 2021's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' title character. He told PEOPLE back in April that he holds "a bit of an aspiration" to appear on Broadway.

"I'm Just Ken" is still generating praise as the film industry enters awards season: the song received nominations for best song at both the 2024 Critics Choice Awards and 2024 Golden Globe Awards this week. Two other songs from Barbie — "Dance the Night" and "What Was I Made For?" — were also nominated for those awards shows.
