Wild Capybaras Shock Woman by Lining Up Single File and Marching Past Her House at Night

A woman in Brazil looked out her window one June night and found a parade of at least 10 capybaras

A woman in Brazil discovered a night-time display of odd animal behavior right outside her window.

On June 20, Luciana Castello Branco Rangel of Brasilia, Brazil, looked out the window of her home right after her dog awoke in the middle of the night and raced to the balcony.

She was curious about what attracted her dog's attention and was startled by what she found. Outside her window was a busy scene, a parade of at least 10 capybaras marching down her street in a single-file line.

Castello Branco Rangel filmed the shocking sight and posted the clip to her TikTok, and it has received over 18 million views.

In the video, the capybaras, the world's largest rodent species, slowly trod down the street in front of Castello Branco Rangel's home. One of the larger animals appears to be leading the group, with the rest of the capybaras slowly marching behind one after another.

At one point in the clip, the rodents start to slow down and break formation. The video ends with Castello Branco Rangel filming the animals resting outside her window in the darkness.

According to National Geographic, capybaras, native to Brazil, can live in groups of up to 40 individuals. While the animals may be known for living in large groups, Castello Branco Rangel told Storyful that she had never seen them act this way.

Before her encounter with the parade of capybara, Castello Branco Rangel posted videos of several other capybara sightings on her TikTok, including clips of the animals swimming. None of the other clips got the same attention as Castello Branco Rangel's original capybara parade clip, which also generated over 29,000 comments.

Most of the comments poked fun at the unusual animal event.

"The capybaras go matching by, hurrah! hurrah!" one commenter shared.

"So orderly. They're up to something 🤣," added another.
