A woman says she is "refusing" to attend her sister's wedding after the sister secretly dated and then got engaged to the woman's ex-fiancé.

In a post shared to Reddit, the 28-year-old anonymous woman writes that she was engaged to a man she calls "Mike" for two years and had dated him for three years prior to the engagement. The couple ultimately called it quits, however, after the woman discovered he was cheating on her three months before the wedding.

"Mike moved away shortly after we broke up, and I thought that was the end of it. I was heartbroken, but I slowly started to move on with my life," she writes.

Then, in June, the woman got a call from her 25-year-old sister with surprising news that she wanted to share over a dinner with their parents.

"When I arrived, Lily and my parents were all smiles, and she drops the bombshell: she’s engaged. To Mike," the woman writes.

She continues: "My head was spinning. I felt like I was going to pass out. Lily and Mike had been secretly dating for the past year, and now they were engaged."

The poster adds that the women's parents had known "for months," but kept it secret in an effort to spare her feelings.

"Lily tried to justify it by saying she and Mike fell in love after our breakup and that their relationship is meant to be. She insisted that they didn't start dating until after we were officially over, but I felt betrayed on so many levels," the woman writes.

After hearing the news, the woman told her sister that she wants "nothing to do with their wedding and stormed out."

Since then, her sister and parents have been "bombarding" her with calls and texts, "calling me selfish and saying I'm overreacting," she writes. "They claim that true love is rare and I should be supportive of Lily's happiness."

"Now, the wedding is in a few months, and the pressure is on," she continues, adding that her parents "have even threatened to cut me off financially if I don't attend."

She continues: "To add insult to injury, Lily recently asked if I would be her maid of honor, claiming she wants to mend our relationship. This request has left me torn — I don't want to ruin our family dynamic further, but I can't shake the hurt and betrayal I feel."

Other Reddit users have weighed in on the post, with one noting that the timeline "seems somewhat questionable."

"You were supposed to get married like 12 months ago but broke up 15 months ago and they have magically been together for 12 months? IDK, maybe, but have you considered the possibility that she is the one he cheated with?" the person writes, adding: "It's bewildering to me that all the adults in this situation accept all this without question, and are putting the pressure on you to do the same."

Others have said the sister is demonstrating questionable judgement with her choice of fiancé, writing, "I just can’t imagine ever wanting to date somebody who cheated on my sister. If you break my sibling’s heart, you are dead to me. There is no relationship to be had there."
