PwC Philippines Chairman Emeritus, in his capacity as Isla Lipana & Co. Foundation President, Alexander Cabrera led a team of volunteers to give cheers and support to the children and staff at CRIBS Foundation, Inc. in Antipolo City on 21 August 2024. This was held ahead of 23 August, his actual birthday. After years of giving attention to various beneficiaries, it was the first time for the Foundation to visit  Alex’s hometown of Antipolo. He learned more about CRIBS and its commitment to the care and development, healing and recovery of children in need of special protection. The child welfare agency cares for surrendered and neglected infants for reunification with their original families or for placement with adoptive families, and rehabilitates female minor survivors of sexual abuse. He and his team toured the babies’ area where they briefly played with children aged 1 to 7 years old. Then a class of young girls aged 7 to 17 years old created simple clothespin puppets with the team and gave him their birthday wishes through songs, messages and friendship bracelets. The team then served rice meals and spaghetti for lunch to all the children and staff. Following CRIBS’ wish list, the team through the Foundation gave diapers, milk formula, rice, medicine, vitamin supplements and toiletries as well as cash donation. (For more information on how to support CRIBS, visit their Facebook page at https://lnkd.in/gUSKYhR.)

Online businesses and activities in the Philippines continue to rise. In response, the government is taking measures to safeguard the rights of both sellers and consumers and has introduced policies aimed at boosting revenue. In a “Taxwise or Otherwise” article, PwC Philippines Tax Director Maria Jonas Yap discusses the Internet Transactions Act (ITA), which was established to build trust in e-commerce and protect and uphold the interests of consumers. She describes which entities are covered by the ITA and the consequences of failing to comply with its implementing rules. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eCM5kmDE

PwC Philippines Chairman Emeritus and Integrity Initiative, Inc. Chairman Alexander Cabrera shared his insights and experiences on integrity as a speaker at the iPROJECT Leadership Camp hosted by the PHINMA Foundation and PHINMA Education at the CCT Tagaytay Retreat and Training Center in Tagaytay, Cavite on 18 August 2024. Alex and his co-speakers, transformative educator Lou Sabrina Ongkiko and ABS-CBN broadcast journalist Jervis Manahan, were warmly welcomed by PHINMA Foundation’s leaders, namely Chairman Roberto Lavina, President Nicole “Nikki” Serafica and Executive Director Ron Ranier R. Around 200 PHINMA scholars enrolled in selected state universities, student leaders from PHINMA Education schools, volunteers from the Big Brother and Big Sister (BBBS) program and teachers from the PHINMA schools listened to Alex, Sab and Jervis during the iINspire plenary session. They addressed the challenges faced by today's youth in upholding this value amid the pervasive influence of modern trends, which often contribute to the erosion of traditional values and moral compass. Alex told the students and teachers that the youth is not necessarily the hope of our nation, but only the youth that can act with integrity. As a final word, he encouraged them to “be the change that you want to see and be the future that God designed you to be.” (In photo, L-R: Ron Reyes, Jervis Manahan, Bobby Laviña, Sab Ongkiko, Alex Cabrera and Nikki Serafica.)
