For over 20 years, I have been focused on understanding customer experience journeys and crafting teams and processes that solve the nuanced needs of clients from consumer to enterprise. I have founded or led eight companies in three countries, employing people from over ten countries and serving clients on every continent.
My life's mission is to help as many people as possible to live happier, more connected lives by contributing to the evolution of the way humans learn. We started EmergePH to inspire 5,000,000 Filipinos to take extreme ownership of crafting their future selves through self-teaching and personal development.
As a co-founder and advisor at Valhalla.team, I work with impact-driven entrepreneurs to help them make sure their software products are blowing the minds of users and spreading organically.

You have a team member who’s underperforming. What can you do to help them succeed?
Once you have an understanding of what is happening in this person's experience that may be leading to underperforming, instead of jumping to "feedback", I'd recommend asking questions to help them unpack and understand how the stories they are telling themselves or the way they are feeling is leading to outcomes that are unsustainable for the role they are in. We SO often assume that we understand the problem and start giving advice. Spend more time being a great listener and coach by slowly unpacking the underlying inner issues, and getting agreement each step of the way to make sure you are getting it right. Ideally they are the ones realizing things about themselves rather than being told by someone else.

You have a team member who’s underperforming. What can you do to help them succeed?
The more I have learned about people and we work, the more I have realized that when someone is not at their best (eg. underperforming), something is not right in their world. Before we talk about work, or performance, it is critical to show that person that it's safe to be in a low place at the moment. The more we focus on taking care of the person, setting aside temporarily the performance issue (the work that needs to be done), the more likely we will be to actually help the person improve their performance sustainably. People want to work in a place where they are treated as humans, not machines. Focus on the human, and the human will very likely improve performance without much focus on performance.
