UPDATE 2 : Police Respond to Domestic Assault Report

Summary:

Pittsburgh Bureau of Police officers from Zone 1 responded to a report of a male who entered a residence on the 900 block of Mina Street and threatened a female acquaintance with a gun during a domestic dispute just before 7:30 p.m.

While officers were en route to the scene, they observed the male suspect flee on foot carrying a gun. Officers followed him into a wooden area on Rhine Street. Two K-9 officers were utilized to aid in the search.

Just before 8 p.m. one of the K-9's spotted the suspect in some low brush and apprehended him on the 1900 block of Rhine Street. During the arrest, the suspect assaulted the K-9 and a Taser was deployed to get him to stop punching and kicking the K-9. A firearm was recovered at this time. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital to be evaluated. Once he is cleared medically he will be transported to the Allegheny County Jail.

He faces numerous charges including aggravated assault and firearms violations.

The extent of the injuries to the K-9 are not known at this time.

The investigation continues.

UPDATE 2:10/30/19 9:51 a.m. Pittsburgh Police confirm the K-9 in this incident was not injured.

UPDATE: 10/30/19 5:19 a.m. Police arrested Arthur Patterson, 28, of Pittsburgh. He is charged with: Persons not to Possess/Use/Manufacture/Control, Receiving Stolen Property, Flight to Avoid Apprehension, Trial, or Punishment, Illegal to Taunt a Police Animal, Carrying Firearm without a License, Terroristic Threats, Simple Assault, Tamper with/Fabricate Physical Evidence, Resisting Arrest, Escape, and Prohibited Acts.

NB: An earlier version of this entry referred to K-9 officers. There seemed to be confusion to some as to whether the dog or its handler was assaulted. It was, in fact, the dog.
