About us
Reko Diq, Balochistan province, Pakistan: A world class copper-gold mine in the making One of the largest undeveloped copper-gold projects in the world, Reko Diq is owned 50% by Barrick, 25% by three federal state-owned enterprises, 15% by the Province of Balochistan on a fully funded basis and 10% by the Province of Balochistan on a free carried basis. The reconstitution of the Reko Diq project was completed in December 2022 — a key step in progressing the development of Reko Diq into a world-class, long-life mine which would substantially expand Barrick’s strategically significant copper portfolio and benefit its Pakistani stakeholders for generations to come. Barrick is now updating the project’s 2010 feasibility and 2011 feasibility expansion studies. This should be completed by 2024, with 2028 targeted for first production.

Ishaque and Sons Associates: A Success Story of Community Leadership and Business Growth. Ghulam Qadir, the Chief Executive Officer at Ishaque and Sons Associates (ISA), exemplifies leadership and dedication to community development in the Reko Diq Project. ISA, a prominent contractor with the Reko Diq Mining Company (RDMC), has achieved remarkable growth. Hailing from Mashki Chah, one of the nearest towns to Reko Diq, Ghulam Qadir holds a master’s degree in English Literature from the University of Balochistan and is an alumnus of the TCC-funded Nokkundi NGO's Network English Language Academy at Nokkundi. His journey is deeply rooted in the legacy of his elder brother, Sardar Ishaque Muhammadzai who is the pioneer of ISA. Sardar Ishaque Muhammadzai (late) initially worked with BHP at the Reko Diq Project. Later, he joined Tethyan Copper Company (TCC), serving in various positions and eventually becoming the Assistant Manager of Administration at Reko Diq Project. When the project was closed down, Sardar Ishaque managed administrative affairs and site management, remaining loyal to Barrick until the end. During the litigation phase, he played a crucial role in facilitating Barrick management by providing ground realities and supporting documents. In 2017, Sardar Ishaque established ISA. With the signing of the agreement between Barrick Gold Corporation and the Government of Pakistan in 2022, Sardar Ishaque was offered the option to either work as an officer or become a contractor. Choosing to serve his community, he opted to become a contractor and started ISA. He also became the chieftain of Muhammadzai, Baloch tribe in 2018. Ghulam Qadir took over the company after Sardar Ishaque's untimely death on March 22, 2023. Under Sardar Ishaque’s leadership, ISA had expanded its services to include catering, hiring local human resources, starting operational Reko Diq camp, removing sands, arranging Barrick CEO visits, providing logistics, and transportation. Currently, ISA engages in construction work such as Indus Hospital Nokkundi and supplies vegetables, fruits, and groceries for Reko Diq site. The company, which began with 8-10 employees, now boasts a workforce of over 100, all receiving competitive salaries. The local economy of Nokkundi and district Chagai has benefited from ISA’s operations, with numerous people receiving indirect benefits. Malik Muhammad Azum Muhammadzai, who is father of Ghulam Qadir, is the Chairman of Community Development Committee Nokkundi. He has always been supportive of the Reko Diq Project, believing it can bring positive changes to the region. ISA is also deeply committed to corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities. The company has conducted medical camps in Mashki Chah, Humai, and Durban Chah, sponsored sports activities in Nokkundi, and contributed to charity for those needing medical assistance.

Dr. Kaleemullah, a dedicated young graduate from Bolan Medical College, is making a significant impact at the RDMC-funded Indus Health & Hospital Network (IHHN) clinic in Humai, a remote part of Balochistan. From a young age, he aspired to become a doctor, dreaming of being the first medical practitioner in his family. His career began with the NGO Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), and he eagerly applied for his current position after seeing the IHHN advertisement. Working at the Humai clinic, established by Reko Diq Mining Company in partnership with IHHN, demands a deep passion for service. Dr. Kaleemullah finds his work rewarding despite the isolation, which allows him to focus entirely on his patients. He plans to pursue postgraduate studies and specialize in Pediatrics, further enhancing his ability to serve the community. #RDMC #Mining #SustainableDevelopment #CommunityEngagement #CorporateSocialResponsibility #LocalEmployment #EconomicDevelopment #TransformingCommunities #MiningIndustry #ResourceDevelopment #FutureImpact
