This certification, an international benchmark for freshwater management, reflects Nestlé’s dedication to responsible water resource management. Subsequent certifications were awarded to factories in Islamabad, Kabirwala, and Karachi, making Nestlé Pakistan the first market in the world to achieve AWS certification across all its sites by 2020. Innovative Local Solutions Nestlé Pakistan’s approach includes leveraging local solutions to address specific regional challenges. For instance, the company has collaborated with the Centre for Water Informatics & Technology (WIT) at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) to develop low-cost smart soil moisture sensors. These sensors help farmers optimize irrigation practices by providing real-time soil moisture data, enhancing water use efficiency on 548 acres of farmland as of 2023. Additionally, Nestlé has promoted the adoption of drip irrigation over conventional flood irrigation, supporting the installation of drip systems on over 300 acres, with a significant portion in Sindh.
