This paper evaluates China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) over a decade, positioned within the broader Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) framework. Examining the project's progression, the study meticulously scrutinizes a spectrum of national, regional, and global geostrategic and geopolitical security challenges that have shaped its trajectory. Delving into the
historical context, the paper illuminates the bilateral relationship between China and Pakistan,
spanning seven decades, marked by defense cooperation, economic collaborations, and strategic
alliances. Drawing from a rich array of primary and secondary sources, the research analyzes the
evolution of security challenges, encompassing terrorism, regional rivalries, and geopolitical tensions.
Initiated in 2013 under the BRI, CPEC has undergone a transformative evolution and has made
substantial contributions towards reshaping the economic landscape of Pakistan however CPEC faced
security challenges stemming from extremism, insurgency, and regional tensions. The analysis
systematically unpacks the diverse array of challenges faced by the initiative. The geopolitical
ramifications are then explored, engendering geopolitical tensions, especially with India, the role of
security challenges from Afghanistan, and the US-China rivalry. This paper offers valuable insights into
the complex security challenges surrounding CPEC, drawing attention to the broader implications for
    Pakistan-China relations.

  • Pakistan and China in SCO: The Realization of Mutual Potential

China in World and Regional Politics. History and Modernity-Institute of Far East Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IFES RAS)

This paper acknowledges that Pakistan and China keep close strategic ties and cooperate in diverse directions within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). It argues that whether Pakistan and China cooperate at a bilateral or multilateral level, the net result does not remain limited to
both states alone but positively affects other SCO member states. It identifies specific areas of bilateral cooperation which yielded regional impacts where China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)…

It identifies specific areas of bilateral cooperation which yielded regional impacts where China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) remains atop. The joint efforts of peace, security, and counter-terrorism are other such areas that engulf the entire SCO, including Russia, and create more space for closer cooperation at the multilateral level. Pakistan and China are receptive to the participation of Central Asian Republics in their endeavors and cement further bilateral relations with each state promoting economic and security ties. This paper further illustrates how Belt and Road Initiative and China Pakistan Economic Corridor created a possibility of mutual development and growth, invoking regional integration and promoting peace and security. The linkage between BRI initiatives in Central Asia and China Pakistan Economic Corridor in Pakistan blurs the bilateralism between China and Pakistan as part of SCO. This paper suggests that Pakistan and China capitalize on their mutual incentives of being permanent members of SCO and enable a friendly environment for mutual growth, prosperity, and a shared future along with their other SCO partner states in the region.

Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is completing 20 years of its existence in 2021. Established in 2001, SCO has emerged as a regional organization focusing on addressing three evils separatism, terrorism, and extremism. For the two decades, SCO has transformed from remaining only a security-centric organisation to promoting business and cultural linkages across the member countries with various initiatives. End of the Cold War and post 9/11 world has enhanced the significance of multilateralism and regional organizations to not only balance power but also better regional cooperation. Pakistan joined SCO as an observer member in 2004 and continued to remain in the organization after becoming a full member in 2017. Pakistan’s presence in SCO as an observer and later permanent membership of Pakistan has opened new avenues for cooperation and opportunities for Pakistan. https://www.tehqeeqat.org/english/articleDetails/20033
