According to European Environmental Bureau’s report 2.2% of the European Union’s total land is needed for current and future solar and wind projects to phase out fossil fuels and nuclear power and achieve climate neutrality by 2040. Given that total area of EU countries equals approx. 4 225 134 km2, it is estimated that around 92 952 km2 is required.   Our team has prepared an analysis of how the area indicated in the report would be distributed across European countries. In the case of Poland, the minimum area required to replace fossil fuel energy with renewable energy installations would be almost 7,000 square kilometers. 🔖The President of the Energy Regulatory Office - Urząd Regulacji Energetyki (URE) has prepared a report on energy storage in Poland. In the registers of transmission and distribution electricity grid operators in Poland, there are 12 energy storage facilities with a capacity of at least 50 kW. The regulator issued five decisions recognizing electricity storage facilities as fully integrated with the grid.   ▶️Recently, storage installations have been playing an increasingly important role on the capacity market. 💥Aurora Energy Research from Oxford, the leading global provider power market analytics, has released its inaugural European Renewables Co-location Report, examining 12 European countries. The study indicated 4 countries: ☑️Germany, ☑️Great Britain, ☑️Ireland and ☑️Poland as the best four markets for co-location of RES assets with battery storage system within Europe.    🔷Co-location in Germany offers attractive revenue stacking opportunities, low grid fees, and mitigation of significant cannibalisation risk for RES, despite recent less appealing innovation auctions.  🔷The U.K. has a favorable regulatory regime that allows co-located assets to access multiple markets and provides faster grid access for co-located RES projects. 🔷Ireland's I-SEM is rated high for co-location of renewables and battery storage due to high curtailment risks for renewables and favorable legislation to facilitate faster grid acces, 🔷Poland has a strong subsidy environment. 📆❗From June 14, 2024 the balancing market reform is in force on the Polish market. The new rules were developed in connection with the implementation of the second stage of the balancing market reform, provided for in the so-called Implementation Plan of electricity market reforms in Poland. This reform introduces significant changes in the functioning of the balancing market, including:  🔷  a new entity and object structure of the balancing market as well as a new catalog of balancing services; 🔷  market principles for the valuation of balancing energy and power reserves; 🔷  15-minute settlement period for balancing energy and imbalance.
