I am excited to announce that I have been awarded the prestigious First Team grant funded by FNP Foundation for Polish Science. The grant totals nearly €805,000 for 4 years, and as part of this project, I will be acquiring Poland's first volumetric 3D bioprinter, which is incredibly thrilling. The project at Uniwersytet im. Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu aims to develop a two-component hybrid bioink for 3D bioprinting vascularized constructs, incorporating extensive material engineering, bioprinting techniques, and iPSC-based studies. This initiative involves collaboration with esteemed institutions including Universidad de Valladolid (Jose Carlos Rodriguez Cabello), Åbo Akademi University (Xiaoju Wang), Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute - IDIBELL (Angel Raya), and University of Colorado Boulder (Jason Burdick). The First Team program is designed to enhance the competitiveness of Polish applications submitted to ERC calls, supporting innovative research projects with significant potential for practical implementation.

👨🏫 Our Ph.D. Student Michał Budziałowski recently participated in Nanobrücken 2024: Nanomechanical Testing Conference in Lyon Bruker’s annual Nanomechanical Testing Conference and User Meeting was held on March 19-21th. It covers all aspects of nanoindentation and nanotribological testing, featuring presentations by leading experts in the field. It was an extraordinary opportunity for a young scientist from our institution to meet experts in nanoindentation, which is the main tool in his innovative doctoral project under the supervision of Emerson Coy and Karol Załęski. Poster presentation entitled: "Determining the Flexoelectric/Photo-flexoelectric Response of Strontium Titanate Cantilevers by Nanoindentation Instrumentation" Gathered a decent attention 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏

⭐ New EU project RIANA launched - a hub for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology More than 100 participants gathered at a hybrid meeting at DESY on 14-15 March to officially kick off the RIANA - project. RIANA (standing for Research Infrastructure Access in Nanoscience & Nanotechnology) has officially been launched on March 1st, to offer access to Europe’s leading facilities in nanoscience and nanotechnology that are at the heart of the development of new materials for prosperity and sustainability. The RIANA project provides the user community with a unique platform of 69 infrastructures from 22 European countries, including synchrotron, electron microscopy, laser, ion beam, neutron, clean room, and soft matter research infrastructures as well as high-performance computing. Beyond standard user access to single facilities, RIANA offers single-point access and particularly strong user support by a network of junior scientists. We are proud the NanoBioMedical Centre can be a part of such a great network!

Another day, another success! 👩🎓 On Monday 12.02.2024, we had the greatest pleasure of participating in the PhD defense of Magdalena Bigaj-Józefowska, entitled "Application of cancer cell membrane-coated nanoparticles in advanced liver cancer treatment". The doctoral dissertation was conducted at the NanoBioMedical Center, under the supervision of Prof. Radosław Mrówczyński and Dr. Bartosz Grzeskowiak. The defense of the dissertation took place at the Faculty of Chemistry AMU🧪👩🔬 In her work, Magda developed magnetic polydopamine-based nanoparticles, that when coated in cell membranes, might be used to precisely deliver chemotherapeutics to a desired location. The produced nanoparticles are remarkable multimodal systems for the therapy of liver cancer due to their intriguing photothermal, magnetic, and contrasting capabilities. 💉 💊 We would like to extend our sincere congratulations to Magda and her supervisors once more, and wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors!

🚀 We're excited to announce the upcoming Student Research Project in 2024 at The NanoBioMedical Center: "Ultrathin Large-scale Films of Polydopamine and Graphene Oxide for Promising Composites in Photocatalysis and Electrochemistry." Financed through the IDUB: ADVANCED Best Student GRANT competition, Zuzanna Łukasiewicz from the Faculty of Chemistry at Adam Mickiewicz University leads as the Principal Investigator, guided by the scientific expertise of Dr. Emerson Coy, Prof. UAM. Below is a brief description of the project 👇 rGO boasts impressive electrical conductivity, yet large homogeneous coatings have remained a challenge. PDA, with its flexibility and superb adhesion, forms large-scale films. Combining rGO into ultrathin PDA films promises a synergistic blend of their unique properties. The project involves synthesizing and analyzing the PDA/rGO nanocomposite free-standing films. Techniques like SEM, TEM, FTIR, UV-Vis Spectroscopy, AFM, Cyclic Voltammetry, and Chronoamperometry will be deployed. The goal is to develop an optimal method and find practical applications, such as electrochemical or photoelectrochemical detection. 👩🎓 Zuzanna envisions presenting results at an international conference and publishing a scientific article—an impressive feat early in her career. Fingers crossed for her success!
