I'm a market risk analyst working on validation of interest rate risk models in the banking book. I completed a PhD on accreting neutron stars modelled with complex magnetohydrodynamic simulations. Originally from the USA, I moved to Warsaw to continue in my desired field of study and to experience a new country and culture. The transition from academia to the financial industry was suitable for me due to my strong analytic and research skills as well as numerical and mathematical problem solving abilities. So far I have found much of what I learned during my PhD to be applicable to my work and I am looking forward to diving deeper into the world of quantitative finance.

Radiative GRMHD simulations of accretion and outflow in non-magnetized neutron stars and ultraluminous X-ray sources
Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, Volume 479, Issue 3, p.3936-3951
We run complex simulations of gas falling onto non-magnetized neutron stars. The goal is to study the radiative output as well as the amount of gas that is expelled from the accretion disk/neutron star interaction. We found a large amount of gas filled the empty space around the system making the star appear to be very dim, even though large amounts of radiation is produced near its surface.

Radial oscillations of a radiation-supported levitating shell in Eddington luminosity neutron stars
Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, Volume 461, Issue 3, p.3233-3238
For very bright neutron stars, it is possible to form an atmosphere suspended above its surface supported entirely by radiation pressure. We calculate the frequency of radial oscillations of such an atmosphere. We then take into account the effects of radiation drag and find the fundamental oscillation mode is completely damped.

Simulating the effect of the Sgr A* accretion flow on the appearance of G2 after pericentre
Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, Volume 440, Issue 2, p.1125-1137
From 2013-2014 an interesting astronomical event was expected to occur. A cloud of gas was observed to pass very close to the supermassive black hole at the center of our galaxy (Sgr A*). We ran hydrodynamic simulations to estimate what effect the accretion disk around Sgr A* would have on this gas cloud. We found that is was possible to constrain the orientation of the accretion disk around Sgr A* because of the measureable effects it produced on this gas cloud.
