My go-to question when choosing the next course is, "How does it connect to what I already know?" If it does, I go for it. I stopped learning skills in isolation while ago as it felt too scattered.

Depending on the subject you're learning, it's great to have at least three modes or spaces for learning: For me, what worked is the following setup: 1) 1 hour a week, blocked off in my calendar, consuming structured online technical courses 2) 30 minutes of free exploration of Podcasts on the way to the gym, focusing primarily on business skills and general knowledge 3) focused reading or listening to build my most important skills (currently GenAI). It's essential to validate your assumptions. Give yourself a small project that tests your "why" behind the learning goal. For example, if you're learning to be a great speaker, try speaking at a local event where you can contribute.

Personally I never agreed by seeing LL as a 'skill' but rather as a PHILOSOPHY. Commitment to LL means embracing the mindset that learning doesn’t cease as you age or achieve certain milestones. It's an ongoing process that enriches your life and enhances your capabilities in various aspects. By seeing failure as a catalyst rather than a barrier, you can turn setbacks into powerful learning opportunities. Each failure provides unique insights and lessons that can only be gained through experience. Instead of being discouraged by failures, viewing them as stepping stones allows you to maintain momentum in your learning journey. This perspective ensures that each challenge you face contributes to your overall growth and development.

WHen it comes to learning, you are your best friend and worst enemy. It's important to have a system where you're accountable to someone else. Discussing your learning projects with your boss, study body or a friend, even casually, will help you stay accountable.
