IMPORTANT INFORMATION

In light of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which the World Health Organization declared on March 11, 2020 and has not yet declared to be over, and in order to reduce the chance of spreading the disease and ensure that its community members’ lives and health are protected, Fundação Getulio Vargas announces the following:

  • In the first half of 2022, FGV resumed in-person classes for its undergraduate, graduate and executive education courses, after deeming that it could ensure safe conditions for all its students at its schools in the municipalities where it has campuses. In-person classes were restarted in line with the health authorities’ regulations and the rules established in FGV’s health and safety protocol;
     
  • FGV’s programs continue to be delivered live, without any loss of quality for students, through synchronous classes using digital educational resources and information and communications technologies. However, in-person meetings and other activities may now be carried out as well;
     
  • FGV continues to monitor the evolution of vaccination coverage and the containment of the pandemic in Brazil. The resumption of 100% of its in-person activities or any expansion in its capacity to receive students must take place cautiously, gradually and safely, in order to minimize any risks of catching and spreading the disease;
     
  • These guidelines may be revised at any time, in line with the behavior of the pandemic and the health situation, the evolution of vaccination coverage and the recommendations of the government and health authorities;
     
  • The administrators of each FGV school and center are on hand to answer any questions you may have at this time, including about the reorganization of school calendars, course content and class hours in response to the pandemic.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Is FGV open?

Yes, it is. FGV reopened its doors to fully vaccinated people on January 3, 2022, after suspending its in-person activities for more than one year and nine months, beginning on March 22, 2020. This exceptional and temporary shutdown was aimed at avoiding crowds in order to reduce the chance of the novel coronavirus spreading and to protect everyone’s health and safety.

2. May employees and service providers enter FGV premises?

Yes, they may. On January 3, 2022, the gradual and planned reopening of FGV’s schools and centers was permitted, although visitors were required to be fully vaccinated and to sign a health declaration. Anyone entering FGV premises must follow the respective health regulations and the Health Protocol produced and widely divulged by the institution.

Employees may now work full-time on FGV premises again, as they did before the pandemic, and the Human Resources Department no longer has to oversee a staff rotation schedule.

3. Can I use FGV’s libraries and study rooms?

The reading rooms in FGV’s libraries are now open again, although it should be noted that numerous databases and journals are available online. If you do not have remote access to what you need, contact your course coordinator or email us at [email protected].

Students may now pick up and return books and use our libraries’ spaces, provided that they abide by the protocols and their physical and service capacity is respected.

We recommend reserving your books online in advance before going to the library to pick them up.

The study rooms are now available and each school is responsible for deciding how they may be used, in accordance with the protocols and their physical and service capacity.

4. Are FGV’s school secretarial offices open?

Yes, they are, but their email, phone and online contact channels also continue to operate normally.

5. When will in-person classes resume?

FGV’s schools resumed their in-person activities in the first half of 2022, while offering a hybrid option, allowing some students to take part remotely while others are in the classroom, in line with the health authorities’ guidelines, the rules established by each school and FGV’s protocol. We continue to constantly monitor the COVID-19 situation in Brazil and further information will be announced by each area of FGV, via its website or by email.

6. How will in-person activities be resumed?

FGV set up a committee to establish protocols and an institutional reopening plan to ensure that the process would take place gradually and safely as soon as in-person activities were authorized.

7. How are selection processes taking place?

It has been possible to hold selection processes for undergraduate and graduate courses, university entrance exams, the National High School Exam (ENEM) and so on in 100% in-person format since the beginning of the 2022 teaching year. However, schools may decide to hold their tests online, provided that they comply with teaching system rules, using information and communications technologies, in accordance with each school’s calendar. Recruitment and selection processes, including admission meetings and individual interviews, are taking place in both online and 100% in-person formats. Personal or group interviews comply with the health authorities’ guidelines and FGV’s protocols.

8. How are events being held?

FGV is holding virtual events in order to maintain and strengthen the exchange of knowledge with the general public. The webinars held by FGV take place daily, online and free of charge. To see the schedule of events, click here (in portuguese).

In addition to these webinars, private events such as graduation ceremonies and end-of-course ceremonies are also taking place online. Hybrid activities may also be held at the FGV Cultural Center, such as welcome receptions for freshmen and filming work, provided that they have been analyzed and approved by the institution in advance.
Event organizers may hold 100% in-person events, provided that they abide by the health authorities’ guidelines and FGV’s protocols.

9. How are extracurricular activities taking place?

FGV schools’ extracurricular activities may take place in person. You need to show proof of vaccination to attend them.

10. Can visitors access FGV’s sites?

Yes, they can. To enter FGV’s premises, visitors must show proof of vaccination at the reception desk. They must be fully vaccinated, as recommended by the health authorities.

11. Does FGV require students, employees and professors to present their vaccination card in order to enter and remain on its premises?

Yes, in order to protect everyone’s lives and health, in accordance with article 3, part III (d) of Law 13,979 of 2020 and articles 5, 6 and 196 of the Federal Constitution.

12. May FGV stop people who are not completely vaccinated against COVID-19 from attending in-person activities on its premises?

Yes. In the case of employees, their ID badges may be blocked. You may be asked to show proof of vaccination when entering or moving around FGV sites.

Employees who are not completely vaccinated may not voluntarily decide to return to in-person work.

13. May employees and students who are completely vaccinated but are at increased risk of experiencing severe cases of COVID-19 due to comorbidities perform in-person activities?

People with comorbidities listed in the National Vaccination Program are granted priority when it comes to COVID-19 vaccination, and if they have been vaccinated, they may choose to perform in-person activities. However, we recommend that pregnant women, employees, professors and students with comorbidities and who are in the COVID-19 high-risk group continue to work and study online. In the case of students, professors and employees who are completely vaccinated but have a doctor’s note issued pursuant to Federal Medical Council Resolution 1,658 of 2002, specifying the need to avoid in-person activities, we ask them to email a copy of this note to FGV's Occupational Health Area at [email protected] (Sao Paulo) or [email protected] (Rio de Janeiro and other locations).

14. What should employees or students do if they have lost their proof of vaccination?

You can obtain a National COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate free of charge on the Conecte SUS platform.

15. Does FGV require people to wear a mask on its premises?

No. Wearing a mask has been optional at FGV since August 22, 2022. Nevertheless, as an additional means of protection, complementing vaccination, we recommend that high-risk people, including people over the age of 60, those with comorbidities and pregnant women, wear a mask, given that the virus and its variants continue to circulate and the World Health Organization has not yet declared the COVID-19 pandemic to be over.

16. Can I go to FGV sites if I have COVID-19 symptoms?

No. If you present symptoms compatible with COVID-19, do not attend work or school and seek medical advice. Stay at home and perform online activities until you have completed the isolation period.

Employees and students with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis should email their test result to FGV’s medical service, for the purpose of evaluation, guidance and follow up, as appropriate. They may only resume in-person activities after they have completed the isolation period.

Employees and students may return before the seventh day after diagnosis, at their doctor’s discretion, provided that they have a negative test result based on a sample collected on the fifth day following the onset of symptoms and/or a negative laboratory diagnosis or test result in asymptomatic cases.

17. Can I go to FGV if I have come into close contact with a person diagnosed with COVID-19?

If you remain asymptomatic following close contact and you are fully vaccinated, according to the vaccination schedule recommended by the health authorities, you may enter FGV premises.

On the other hand, if you experience flu-like symptoms or shortness of breath as defined by the health authorities following close contact, you will not be able to enter FGV premises.

18. If I do a COVID-19 self-test and the result is negative, can I go to FGV?

Self-test results are not valid when it comes to resuming in-person activities.

Only the results of laboratory tests (RT-PCR or RT-LAMP) or antigen tests are accepted as proof of diagnosis. Self-test results are not accepted. Self-tests do not provide a proper diagnosis, which must be performed by a health service or professional. Self-tests merely provide guidance and they are not equivalent to a medical report.

Therefore, we recommend that you go to a health center to confirm your diagnosis and receive guidance and follow-up care, if necessary.
