Switzerland vs Scotland Euro 2024 Prediction

HINT: Switzerland ODDS: 17/20 19 JUN @ 20:00

Switzerland will be looking to build on their opening 3-1 victory over Hungary and guarantee progression with a victory over Scotland on Wednesday.

Scotland were humiliated 1-5 by Germany in the opening match of the tournament, after fans and media were giving them praise heading into the tournament, and many “tipsters” claiming they could take a 0-0 from the game. None-the-less, we correctly tipped Germany to lead at half-time and thrash them.

Murat Yakin’s side looked very good against Hungary in their opening game, but there were two things they should be cautious of. One: They had the ball in the final third and opposition penalty area a lot but often made a poor final pass. Two: They controlled the game for an hour, conceded a goal and let Hungary back into the game.

Fortunately for Switzerland, I think Scotland are worse than the Hungarians. The likes of Granit Xhaka and Michael Aebischer should be able to unlock the defence with their passing game, whilst the likes of Kwadwo Duah and the returning Breel Embolo should feed off them against a slow Scotland defence.

Scotland do have one advantage in this fixture – they have had an extra day’s rest and preparation, which could play in their hands given the short turnaround of games (think back to Brazil vs South Korea in the 2022 World Cup).

Steve Clarke’s side looked woeful versus Germany and really lacked any threat going forward. Somewhat lucky with their consolation courtesy of an own goal. Admittedly, that was against one of the favourites. The gulf in quality has lowered for their second game. Ultimately though, I don’t see Scotland being good enough to get anything out of this game and Switzerland are much higher odds than I was expecting.
