自己紹介

My name is Josanne, I'm from the Netherlands and I'm a jurist (criminal law), tutor, study supervisor, group fitness instructor and language lover. My native language is Dutch, but I also speak English, German, Swiss German, Spanish and French. I'm learning Italian and Japanese and I'm enjoying every frustrating bit of it.

I'm a true bookworm and the books I love are very diverse. My absolute favourite genre is medical thrillers, with (of course!) legal thrillers a beloved runner up.

Besides reading I also like to write. Every year I participate in NaNoWriMo and I kind of have the idea of participating in my target languages from now on. Who doesn't like a challenge, right?

I have worked as a teacher in high school for Dutch and in adult education for Dutch and German. Since secondary school, I have been tutoring students in Dutch, English and German, and I have worked with refugees helping them deal with the legal challenges they encountered as well as with learning the Dutch language. At the moment I also work as a tutor for Dutch criminal law, considering obtaining a PhD.

Even though I can easily talk about almost anything, the point of language learning is to get you to speak. There are many different ways to get there; exercises, writing, acting out dialogues from your favourite books or movies, prepared presentation and unprepared speech… Whatever fits your learning style and what you feel comfortable with. I can easily adapt to your (language) learning needs and style.

By learning other languages, I have also started looking at Dutch with different eyes, recognising the pitfalls learners may encounter.

I’d be thrilled to help you identify and overcome the quirks of the Dutch language. Trust me, I know how learning a foreign language can be frustrating and fulfilling at the same time!

During my lessons you will take the active role and I will only interrupt your flow of speech in situations I consider appropriate. I will make corrections in the chat window during our conversation, or we could use a shared Google Doc.

I do NOT offer structured foreign language lessons or a structured A to Z course.

I do NOT offer lessons for students at beginner level. Students have to be at least level A2+ in Dutch.

Josanne is a kind and patient teacher who can really talk about anything, as she mentions in her introduction. She listens to me and adjusts herself to my needs. She also knows how to comfort the student and shows a lot of empathy.

De lessen bij Josanne zijn altijd een hoogtepunt in mijn studieweek. Josanne kun je fantastisch motiveren en vindt altijd interessante onderwerpen voor de conversatie oefeningen. Zij is creatief, attent en creëert een leeromgeving waarin je, ook al ben je een beetje verlegen, steeds meer Nederlands durft te spreken. Ik ben een beginner en Josanne heeft veel geduld met mij, ook als ik al tijden op zoek ben naar de juiste woorden. Echt een aanrader. The lessons with Josanne are always a highlight in my study week. She can motivate you fantastically and finds always interesting topics for the conversation practice. She is creative, attentive and creates a learning atmosphere in which you dare to speak more and more Dutch even if you are a bit shy. I am a beginner and Josanne is very patient with me, even when I search for the right words for ages. Highly recommended.
