Mounzer Agha, MD, is the director of the Mario Lemieux Center for Blood Cancers at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, and the clinical director of the Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation of UPMC. He is visiting research associate professor of medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Agha specializes in hematologic malignancies and stem cell transplantation.
Board-certified in hematology and medical oncology, he received his medical degree from the Aleppo University in Syria. He completed his residency training at Pennsylvania State University and his fellowship training in Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation at the Fred Hutchison Cancer Center and the University of Washington in Seattle. He completed a research fellowship at Harvard Medical School, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.
Dr. Agha participates actively in clinical research and served as an investigator on several clinical trials. He co-authored numerous scientific and clinical publications in numerous prestigious journals including Cell, Science, Blood, and Bone Marrow Transplantation.
He has received numerous awards, including the Judy Finkelstein Memorial Award from the Pennsylvania State University and the Outstanding Teacher Award at the University of Pittsburgh. He also received the Leo H. Criep Excellence in Patient Care Award twice from UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, and has been recognized on the list of Best Doctors in America for hematology since 2005.
