Final JHPD Policies Posted: Final JHPD policies are available here, accompanied by a disposition report detailing all comments received and actions taken, and an external 21CP report on the policy development process.

New JHPD Hires Announced: Following an extensive search and with the benefit of input from JHU community members, we have hired two veteran leaders to help lead the JHPD: Deputy Chief Monique “Mo” Brown and Captain Robert “Teddy” Reed.  Learn more about them here.

Applications closed for the Student Advisory Committee for Public Safety (SACPS): The 2024-2025 application for the Student Advisory Committee for Public Safety (SACPS) closed at 11:59 p.m. on March 29, 2024.

Public Comment Period for Draft JHPD Policies Concludes: Even though the public comment process has concluded, we will regularly review and update policies and welcome your feedback via email ([email protected]) or the JHPS feedback form, Contact Public Safety. All feedback received during the public comment period will be included in a future report.

Second Tranche of Draft JHPD Policies Posted for Public Comment: Additional draft policies were posted and available for community review and feedback over a 60-day public comment period which concluded on January 29, 2024.

Draft JHPD Policies Posted for Public Comment: The first tranche of Johns Hopkins Police Department (JHPD) draft policies was posted for a 60-day public comment period on September 21. The deadline to review these policies was extended by 30 days to December 20.

Behavioral Health Crisis Support Team

In response to the concern for the safety and well-being of our community and the desire to complement campus safety and security’s response to behavioral health crises, Johns Hopkins University is developing a behavioral health crisis support team to serve our students, faculty, and staff and non-affiliate community members in and around our Baltimore campuses.

Innovation Fund for Community Safety

Johns Hopkins University has created the JHU Innovation Fund for Community Safety, a four-year, $6 million commitment to support innovative, community-led programs designed to curb violence. The fund, which builds on the university’s longstanding commitment to helping to reduce violent crime in Baltimore, will support both new programs and the expansion of existing ones.

Meet the Johns Hopkins Accountability Board

The 15-member Johns Hopkins Accountability Board includes three community members unaffiliated with the university and 10 JHU students, faculty members, and staff — including at least one member of the university’s Black Faculty and Staff Association. Baltimore’s mayor and City Council president each appoint individuals to the remaining two seats.
