  • Saudi Arabian central warehouse move

    The objectives were to move the warehouse from a Hilti run operations to a 3PL outsourced warehouse. The move was scheduled over 3 weeks period, the warehouse was supposed to be closed for sales for 2 working days. There was no possibility to get temporary workers (due to newly introduced Saudi internal law) and the move was scheduled for June/July - months of the highest heat.

    The objectives were to move the warehouse from a Hilti run operations to a 3PL outsourced warehouse. The move was scheduled over 3 weeks period, the warehouse was supposed to be closed for sales for 2 working days. There was no possibility to get temporary workers (due to newly introduced Saudi internal law) and the move was scheduled for June/July - months of the highest heat.

    I took prat in preparation stage, including the integration of the systems and testing. My role was to support and work on the test matrix.
    In the planning stage I was fully involved in designing the system scenarios for the move plus the workload split.
    During the execution stage I had to manage the loading of the trucks for the move (there were 4 hour windows during the day when the truck could move in the city), dispatch of customer orders, manage the offloading of the incoming containers and offloading of the trucks at the destination. As more stock got moved, more customer deliveries originated from both warehouses. This plus the goods pick up had to be organized.
    This was all managed without additional workforce. Many of the warehouse workforce was close to illiterate and without any ability to communicate in English.
    In the closing stage I was involved with the stock take that followed the move and sorting out the stock differences.
