Your boundaries deserve to be respected

gentle reminder

gentle-reminder:

try to imagine yourself sitting across from you, or beside you. close your eyes. talk to them. comfort them. take a small moment to connect, heal, and tell yourself what you think you need to hear. you deserve to be loved and cared for. take it easy on yourself today, please, and take care.

alisonsmouth:

please don’t EVER hesitate to send someone who is struggling cute and lovely messages. even a little “I’m here for you” means everything and you could change that person’s bad day. spread love and kindness whenever you can. trust me that a person will never forget about your kind actions.

The news has been dark recently, so I’ve been looking for the bright things to be grateful for. 🌻You all posting such kind comments about my art have really been a bright spot for me while I’ve been stuck in my apartment for a while. ☀️

Because of the coronavirus, survivors of sexual or domestic violence may be even more concerned about being in close quarters with their abusers. Here are a few possible strategies survivors may find helpful to consider in these circumstances:

▪️Make a list of supportive people to have regular check-ins with via phone or video chat.

▪️Take breaks outside, keeping social distancing in mind.

▪️Consider what places in your home are easy to get in and out of during a conflict.

▪️Create a code word to share with your support network that indicates you are in need of immediate help.

▪️Make and hide an ‘escape bag’ with your important documents, medicine, keys & other items.

▪️Be gentle with yourself; you’re doing the best you can.

Safety planning in these situations looks different for everyone—RAINN is here to support you and help identify safety strategies at 800.656.HOPE (4673) & online.rainn.org. Survivors of domestic abuse can also contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800.799.7233.
