Learning Curve (Franklin U Book 6) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 3,381 ratings

Cobey Green
There I was, moving into the dorms at Franklin U and not into the shared party house I’d lived in my freshman year. Last year had been all about football and parties, not schoolwork. Which was why my grades tanked. Why I was one failed class away from being kicked off the team.
Why I needed to live on campus and find myself a tutor.
Funny that my new roommate just happens to
be a tutor. Funny that he’s oblivious to how hot he is. For a smart guy, he’s pretty clueless. Maybe I could tutor him in how to be more outgoing in exchange for help with calculus? I could teach him how to talk to people, how to make new friends. Hell, maybe I could even help him punch his V card.
Actually, now that I think about it… that’s a really good idea.

Vincent Brandt
And there
I was, happy to be back at college, happy to be where I was most comfortable. Happy to be starting another school year, happy to start tutoring again so I could earn some money.
And yes, there I was equal parts excited and dreading to see who my new roommate would be… until Cobey Green’s smiling face appeared at the door. A huge football player loved by everyone, gorgeous, rich, and out of the closet.
Everything I’m not.
It doesn’t help that he’s genuinely a really nice guy. It doesn’t help that I make him laugh and we can talk so easily. And it certainly doesn’t help that we start having private tutoring sessions, which end up way more private than I’d ever dare imagine.
I’d ranked top of my class in every subject since the first grade, yet there I was falling stupidly in love with him.

This was going to be a hell of a year. And one very steep learning curve for both of us.

A Feel-Good Book with a Sweet Couple

A Feel-Good Book with a Sweet Couple

I am once again reading the FU series out of order, but this is definitely my favorite of the three I’ve read so far! The Franklin University books are low-angst with some really sweet couples. If you ever need a feel-good book, these are definitely the ones to read, and Learning Curve will especially give you all the feels! It didn’t require too much thought to follow along, but I also couldn’t help be invested in this adorable relationship. So, what I’ve discovered from the stories I’ve read is most of these books are probably insta-love. All of the ones I’ve read so far have been, and at first it bothered me a lot, since insta-love isn’t my favorite trope in the slightest, but now that I know to expect it going in, it doesn’t concern me as much. Cobey and Vincent’s story was definitely instant-attraction, but their actual feelings for each other grew over time and the more they got to know each other.Cobey is just an all-around great guy, who is friends with everyone and can hold a conversation in his sleep. Vincent on the other hand, is much more shy, secluded, and awkward around others. He would rather spend a day in the library studying than go out to Shenanigans with the rest of the school. This makes for a great dynamic between the two, since Cobey is willing to help Vincent out of his shell, and Cobey is in dire need of calculus tutoring, which Vincent just happens to be a genius at.I loved watching Vincent step out of his comfort zone and try new things. Even though it was difficult for him, he always had a desire to do those things, but lacked the confidence and skills to do so. With Cobey’s help, though, he’s able to put himself out there and slowly open up to others. Usually situations like these in books, the one character is focused solely on helping the other start dating, but I really appreciated the inclusion and focus on simple socializing and making friends. It made the story feel more relatable and authentic. Also, I was really jealous of Cobey’s ability to talk to literally anyone he met. How do people like that exist? What was interesting about Vincent and Cobey is that I could barely relate to them. I did definitely relate to Vincent’s social awkwardness and introvertedness, but other than that, they were both total opposites of me. Cobey is an outgoing football player, while Vincent is a super genius in math. While I enjoy reading about sports, I rarely watch football, and don’t actually know that much about it, so a lot of their conversations surrounding that made very little sense to me. In addition, the calculus conversations went over my head as much as they went over Cobey’s. Still, even though several of their conversations were essentially indecipherable to me, I still could not put the book down.I was so invested in these two and their relationship! They were just so sweet and endearing. Vincent didn’t have a lot of self-confidence, but Cobey was always sure to let him know how much he appreciated him, and he always went slow so that Vincent was never uncomfortable. They’re a couple I surely won’t be forgetting any time soon.Overall, I really enjoyed my time with Learning Curve! I had trouble getting into the beginning at first, but as soon as I got into it, I was into it, and I could not put it down. I definitely recommend this one if you’re looking for a light-hearted, feel-good romance!

I absolutely loved every page of this story, and both MC's are just amazingly cool. I just hate that such an awful cover was on this great book! Hate how trashed he looks, when he's so good looking and a babe. And Vincent is such a wonderful sweet character. Just because he was always almost broke didn't mean he had to look so raggedy. Why that sloppy stretched out shirt, and his head tilted so awkwardly? Just took away from the desire to purchase this originally. He deserved to be represented better, but that's just my opinion. But I love N R Walker, one of my favorite authors, so I came back to it after I bought and read 3 others which I loved (A M Johnson, Riley Hart and Louisa Masters). I wanted to read it, based on reviews and my fondness and admiration of this author. And I'm glad I did. Loved it.

Football star Cobey has to move to the dorms his sophomore year, his parents have insisted. He almost lost his scholarship as well as his ability to stay on the football team he's a star player on, when his grades dropped so low he barely passed last year. He had lived in the Athletic Frat house, partying his year away. Almost cost him everything. He finds out at the last second that he's going to have a roommate too, there were no more singles left. Vincent the shy genius is his roommate. Cobey tries to be kind when he meets him, but Vincent kinda freaks when he realizes he's now roommates with one of the most popular guys in the whole place, as well as a star football player. They get along ok initially, but soon Cobey realizes he's totally infatuated with Vincent. Vincent is very shy but for some reason not around Cobey. And Cobey finds Vincent is one of the funniest people he knows, as well as so smart, and so kind. The way their story unfolds is so sweet and realistic, and I couldn't put it down. Till I had to - then picked it back the next day and read till I finished it. I love this story and know it will be in my reread pile. I'll enjoy again and again. 5 big stars.

This story revolves around the unlikely pairing of a popular football star and a socially anxious genius. Despite their stark differences, they support each other in both academic studies and dating skills, unexpectedly fostering a heartwarming romantic relationship.

The book primarily focuses on the endearing characters and their humorous interactions rather than intense conflicts or dramatic plotlines. As usual, Walker's works always make you warm and laugh out loud.

Everything to like about this story. Cobey is a popular defensive lineman on the Kings’ college football team who is living in the dorms his sophomore year since his grades tanked freshman year while living at the house with the other football players. His new roommate is brilliant but underprivileged Vincent who is as opposite as opposite can be from Cobey. Yet through Cobey’s force of personality, kindness, and like-ability, Vincent finds himself opening up to his roommate who is anything but the stereotypical jock that has been his experience in the past.

They form a tutoring partnership in which Vincent helps Cobey with calculus and Cobey helps Vincent with his social and sexual IQ. The use of weight lifting as the euphemism for their private lessons is pretty cute. Cobey is an absolute sweetheart in all his hunky bisexual glory and Vincent is not officially out when they meet, but he’s not opposed to it either. There was no reason to really think about it in the past, but Cobey certainly gives Vincent a reason now.

The only angst is when Vincent recounts his childhood to Cobey, which is sad indeed. There are some really sweet moments between these two and the ending is a fantasy of an HEA in the sports world. There is no homophobia from the teammates or the student body at FU - just a social media storm in the background of “are they.” Vincent is uncomfortable in the limelight but he weathers various social milestones on Cobey’s behalf. There is no gratuitous, annoying drama or misunderstandings. Vincent develops a friendship or two and these two have campus wide acceptance as a couple. Cobey’s parents couldn’t be more lovely.

This was a great confection of a sports fantasy and I really enjoyed it. It will be amazing when reality catches up to fantasy one day.

While the plot twist may be a bit slow to unfold, the overall experience is definitely worth it. I already love EWB, that’s from the same author, and this one brings my favorite combo, nerd and football player, they’re the cutest couple ever, I wouldn’t complain if the book had more pages, I could read about these two daily lives forever. Definitely what I needed right now, a fun and sweet love story!

You know, I don't think this author could write a bad story even if she tried to. This tale is so freaking amazing she kinda converted me. I used to avoid college stories, young men falling in love so early in life and and then get hurt or bullied, it upset me. And then a long comes Vincent and Cobey, two of the sweetest, gentlest, most adorable young men ever, and, my friends, that was that. A truly touching and gorgeous read.
