Level Up: Franklin U 2 - Book Four Kindle Edition

Joey 'Jay' Cruz

Moving to San Luco wasn’t my choice. I was kicked out of my old school because of a protest I organized that went south. Now, I was attending Franklin University with only a semester left until graduation and not knowing a single soul.

Until I meet Ryan Redpine at a frat party. He’s handsome, muscular, has a great smile, and I quickly find out he’s the son of a CEO hell-bent on destroying the environment.

I push Ryan out of my mind, deciding to keep my sanity and morals intact.

But fate had other plans. When Ryan ended up as my surprise dorm mate, avoiding him became impossible. And so was avoiding the feelings that started to develop... Maybe getting expelled wasn't the worst thing that’s ever happened to me. Maybe it was actually the best?

Ryan Redpine

Jay entered my life like a lightning bolt.

I’d never met someone I was so attracted to, and someone who clearly didn’t want me. The moment he learned about my dad, he shut me out. Then I get reassigned to his dorm. Cue complications, especially when his bed breaks and we're forced to share.

Things quickly heat up, but Jay's adamant about keeping us under wraps. He's planning this big protest at the beach for an oil drilling project and doesn't want my family name tied to it.

So how do I tell Jay my dad is one of the backers? And how do I make sure I don’t lose him in the process?

When Jay was kicked out of his college on the cusp of his graduation, he just knew his life was ruined. Here he is at Franklin U for his last semester of college with no friends, new classes and the smell of the ocean…not good! Things only get worse when Ryan Redpine must room with him while his room is being fixed. Why him?! He is the heir to the fortune accrued by his father while destroying the environment. As an activist Jay cannot condone being friends with anyone with the last name “Redpine.” Unfortunately, there is an attraction that neither can deny. Can they pursue their mutual magnetism? How hard can Jay fight it?
I truly enjoyed this gay romance. These two guys, Jay and Ryan are so cute and I am quite sure most gay men would be appalled by my appellation! Anyway, if you like the enemies-to-lovers trope in gay romance, you will enjoy this well-written book.
The books in this series are written by different authors and each has an HEA for that couple. The books are all college-age young men at Franklin U falling in love. I volunteered to review an ARC of it through Gay Romance Reviews.

What happens when in an effort to save the environment, you end up kicked out of school instead? You transfer to a new school, with the same hopes, but a more strict set of rules for yourself to abide by. Mistakes happen, but can you truly outrun them?

Jay is about to find out what happens when the guy you meet at a party is neither straight, nor a serial killer. He’s just the Prince of a company set to destroy the environment you are fighting to protect. Do you simply judge a book by it’s cover and move on? This is the plan. Jay can’t be seen cavorting with the enemy.

Ryan Redpine, is a Prince among men. He’s sweet, enigmatic and not at all like his Dad. However, he loves his Dad and doesn’t want to lose his respect. It is why he hasn’t told his Dad he wants to design video games. He doesn’t want to take over Redpine Global. When Ryan sees Jay he is immediately smitten.

When Jay discovers who Ryan’s Dad is, his opinion of Ryan changes. When Ryan’s dorm floods and he is forced to bunk with Jay, neither of them are prepared for what is to come. The stress, the anger, the frustration followed by the friendship, the chemistry and the connection.

This was super cute and super sweet. It had a lot of deeper issues, which seemed to end up rushed through. It felt a bit incomplete.

I used to say that, in the MM Romance world, read a woman for love, read a man for spice. But, in Level Up, Max Walker defied the stereotypes. He expertly guided us through the emotional labyrinth of lasting love, while presenting physicality in a way only one with first hand experience can deliver.

Max Walker made me feel Jay’s reluctant pull towards Ryan as strongly as I felt Ryan’s growing obsession with all things Jay. And by the end, I *needed* this pair to find their HEA. And it was better than expected.

I liked this book from the beginning.
Jay & Ryan were adorably funny and awkward.
Though Jay judging Ryan in the beginning because of his parents, was an annoying. But love has to start somewhere ya know? 😂 and it worked out in the end.
Gotta love the roommates angle especially when a spider helps ya.
Please I was dying of laughter after Jay came out of the bathroom screaming and in a rush which caused him to fall *naked* onto Ryan. This right here was gold 😂😂
There were other moments that I really loved in this book but the shower spiders lives rent free in my head.

Definitely in my top four favorites from this series

Jay and Ryan were the cutest couple. I appreciated how Jay always wanted to be true to his beliefs and didn't want anyone to doubt his integrity. Ryan was definitely someone different that Jay expected him to be and he didn't let Jay get by with making a snap judgment. I enjoyed how they took their time to get to know each other and learn their true selves. Ryan did make a poor decision, but it wasn't worthy of the drama Jay gave. I was glad Maddy was able to set him straight. I loved these two, and watching them both overcome some deep-seated fears was beautiful.

Enemies in Jay's mind, these two become lovers after Jay realizes he cant judge a man by his family. Ryan wants more than to take over his father's company, he wants to follow his dreams of creating video games. they grow closer and realize they must support each others dreams and work together. Sweet book

Max's books have been on my TBR for ages, I got very excited when I heard he was joining FU2 & he did not disappoint. I wanted to shake Jay a few times in the beginning for judging a book (Ryan) by its reputation but once they ended up in the same room and then broke Ryan's bed well, I started to forgive him. I absolutely adored Ryan and his journey not only to prove Jay's assumptions about him wrong but to excel at the things he loved and carve his own path.

I loved the little glimpses and cameos from other couples and characters from previous and coming books in the series, honestly it's one of my favourite things about the FU books. Cannot wait to dig into more of Max's works now.

Loved the way Jay and Ryan came together. There was love at first sight but they were seemingly from opposite ends of the ecological spectrum - at least Jay assumed so from Ryan's surname. Thankfully they weren't and love and ecology won out leading to a happy ever after ending.

Between cuteness and activism, Ryan and Jay let the sparks fly between them. Roommates to lovers is a trope that I affectionate particularly sooo that was nice ! I like the fact that they both have artistic sides, which had an impact on their personality for sure. While Jay is a fervent activist and defender of the environment, Ryan is torn between his family business actions and his newfound relationship.
Even if the circumstances tell them they shouldn’t be together, they cannot fight their attraction.

Ryan and Jay meet at a party and have an instant connection, but then Jay hears Ryan’s last name - the company is one of his biggest enemies against all his environmental battles. He leaves, planning to never see him again. But when Ryan’s dorm floods and he is assigned to a temporary room - it just so happens to be with Jay.

Jay fights against his feelings for Ryan, though Ryan is nothing but kind and teasing to him. Eventually though, he lets down his walls, and his pants, on a night out with Ryan and their friends. Jay manages to reconcile the fact that Ryan isn’t his father’s company and even discovers that Ryan doesn’t like what the company does to the environment. The two get even closer, support each other, Ryan even supporting the protest Jay is helping to organise.

When Ryan’s father turns up to the protest with police, things come to a head with them and Jay can see their relationship crumbling in front of him so he steps in to stop their fighting.

This was a very sweet story, loved Ryan and his fun and caring energy, lovely spice with some surprise daddy energy going on too!

I had never read a book by this author, so it was a new experience and I intend to read other books by him. But this book was very difficult to finish. The plot starts off very good, but before the 50% mark everything happens and it becomes a big, meaningless mess, with no plot, no development. The big climax comes almost at the end with the story of Ryan's father and it is somewhat late and bland. The connection between the characters and their friends is really cool and adds to the story and I loved that, but the plot itself left something to be desired.
