If Trump is neutralized, some things will change.  But most things will not.

Imagine that Trump had been killed yesterday.  You would think that after that unique threat to democracy had been removed, the left might change their approach to, well, something.  I’m not so sure.  In fact, I suggest that they would not change anything at all.  I made up the below hypothetical news story to illustrate my point.  Would you consider this to be satire or reality?

DEMOCRATIC LEADERS UNIFY IN CALLING FOR PEACE, WHILE RADICAL REPUBLICANS POUNCE ON VIOLENCE

BUTLER, PA (AP):  After years of MAGA Republicans calling for violence against America’s government, Donald Trump was killed yesterday by a white Christian man with an assault rifle.

President Biden immediately called for peace, and pledged to renew his efforts to promote common sense gun control.  “We can’t allow hate-filled MAGA Republicans to seize power through violent coup attempts.  America must stand strong against all enemies, foreign and domestic.  I’m amazed that radical Republicans still don’t understand the danger of guns.”

Chuck Schumer led a chorus of Democratic leaders in offering condolences to the latest victims of gun violence:  “It’s tragic that my friend Donald Trump became a victim of the very gun culture that he promoted.  He and I disagreed occasionally on policy matters, but we always respected one another and loved one another personally.  Not like the new radical wing of the Republican party that we’re seeing these days, like Marco Rubio, Tom Cotton, Ron DeSantis, and other candidates that you’re seeing in the new Republican primary.  Trump was a businessman — you could negotiate with him.  These new far-right radicals in the Republican party present a unique danger to democracy that we’ve not seen before.”

From Chris Allan, via Shutterstock. Photo ID: 2376377537

After lighting a candle for those who died on that tragic day, Vice President Kamala Harris also pleaded for peace as America continues to struggle with violence from the far-right:  “I just left an important policy meeting with leadership of the FBI and CIA.  We all believe in free speech, of course.  But recent events have made the dangers of allowing radicals, Trump supporters, and far-right Republicans to gather in public places, post on social media, and spread hate-filled Republican rhetoric without reasonable supervision from those who care only about American unity and peace.  Like the FBI and the CIA.  We’re all working together for solutions for peace.”

Pete Buttigieg echoed VP Harris’ call for national unity:  “It’s never been more important for America to unify behind mainstream, stable leaders like President Biden.  Or, if his health should falter, behind the Democrat nominee, whoever they are.  We can’t allow radicals like Mitt Romney or Tim Scott anywhere near public office.  We’ve seen what happens when Republicans seize power.”

Stay tuned to CNN for continuing guidance on interpreting this evolving story.

My point, of course, is that if Donald Trump is removed from the picture through assassination, or via a biased judge, or through government invasions of his home, planting evidence, or whatever — once Mr. Trump is no longer the Republican nominee, the Democrats will continue the same approach against whoever is next.

They might be slightly less vicious if the next Republican leader is completely incompetent.  But not by much.  Because it’s not the Republican leader that Democrats hate.

They hate Republican voters.  Trump isn’t standing in the way of permanent left-wing control of America.  Republican voters are.  They are the true enemy of the left.  And the left knows it.

Donald Trump knows it, too, and has said so many times.

I hope Republican voters figure this out.  I think that many of them have.

It’s important to give thanks that Mr. Trump was not killed yesterday.  But it’s also important to remember that that’s not the point.  And it never has been.

Democrats hate Trump because he is effective in representing the interests of America.

Americans should take note.

Thank you for your usual clear summary of the state of play. It also highlights the importance of the choice of VP. Who is the person best positioned, by experience, skill and temperament, to both pursue policies Trump speaks for and aggressively fight the attacks which will continue on the foundational principles of the US and its direct interests? Who will others (also with experience, skill and temperament) follow as a leader? Who will be an example for building a committed bench? Who can sell the value of the asset of the American Republic and how worth fighting for it is?
In other election cycles there was room for promoting on potential. I’d like someone who could do the job now. Maybe i’ll have to accept someone who has to rise above differences because they see how grave the risk is.

Even if the loser shooter was motivated by extreme Democratic rhetoric, it is Trump’s fault for making them feel that way.

Calls for unity, bi-partisanship and lowering the rhetorical temps are indicators of bad behavior by someone on the left. Only Republicans can be unilaterally worthy of criticism and condemnation.

The National Review guys today were uniformly admiring (some grudgingly) of Trump’s response in the moment. That raised fist, bloody face under the flag is his own personal Mount Suribachi image. (Incompetent DEI-crafted protection about to be investigated by a partisan hack FBI is also almost a message by itself.)

I wish I agreed with Democrat pols whispering despairing noises about how this event guarantees a Trump win. There are almost certainly more twists and turns ahead and enough time for the public to forget.

I hope the hell Trump adopts a new, heroic pose with a positive vision and eschews Chris Christie fat jokes, bitterness about 2016 and no longer needed jibes at Biden. This is a chance to claim a transformative event and a pse under mantle of great leadership. (I can hope anyway.)

Yeah. To all here who wish to blame and ridicule President Trump aren’t just wrong, you’re foolish too.

Whoever is a Republican nominee, no matter how genial, polite and ‘acceptable’, will be disparaged, insulted and smeared. It’s not just President Trump.

    President Bush was called Hitler.

Precious Mitt Romney was called a Murderer.

Democrats assault and attack anyone who opposes their agenda and threaten their power. They are anti-American, immoral and disciples of Alinsky, and his inspiration, Satan.

The perfect world that the left can’t exist because people aren’t perfect. Rather than accept that, they have to pretend that Jews or Christians or whites are actively blocking the coming perfection. That’s the real origins of the hate.

No different than Hitler’s approach – pick a scapegoat that you portray as blocking your ‘utopia’ and having undue wealth, at your expense. It also follows Satan-lover Alinsky’s Rule #13: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.

I should provide future attribution to a panelist on MSNBC when he or she finally expresses it in exactly these terms.

Impeachments, constant Hitler references, the outrageous abuse of federal power to push a crude campaign dirty trick (the absurd Steele dossier), nasty attacks on his wife and kids, and cheering the wholesale abuse of prosecutorial power are all Trump’s fault because he makes the enlightened ever so cross.

This is a very interesting compilation. It leans pretty heavily for the last half on the word “fight”, which may be unfair – our side probably uses that too. You will in every contest.

But the rest, the talk of punching, and taking out behind the barn, and blowing up, and when was the last time an actor killed a president, and you will reap the whirlwind (while calling our Supreme Court justices by their last names – classy, Schumer!), all of this is very telling. Where are the days of “…I think my learned colleague would agree that…”, and “… As I’m sure our friends on the other side of the aisle recall…”?

Does our side talk like this? Could someone assemble a bunch of shots of our guys saying how much we want to kill them?

This could be irony but it is also reality.

    According to the Nuevo Commies:

Nothing good can ever be said or thought about Trump. No matter how small a compliment one pays him, the individual offering the slightest praise will be cancelled and demonized.

In 2017, Kathy Griffith was photographed carrying the effigy of a beheaded Trump. The Left applauded her sentiment.

Madonna talked about how she came to decide that the WH should be bombed. She too was applauded.

The rationale behind the applause is that if Trump had not so willingly become  Hitler, no one would have to entertain these thoughts.
