Debate season is here, but the frontrunner was a no-show. Dennis reviews the proceedings but not before he talks about what is not debatable – our basic constitutional rights – and how the raid on the Marion County (KS) Record is something to be resisted with every ounce of our beings.

This week we talk to Matt Kim of Atlanta, GA about his Twitter rant that went viral and with leading media attorney Lynn Oberlander about the Kansas newspaper raid.

All that and the Parting Shot on the woes of retail: “The Problem That Shall Not Be Named.”

One key fact that was missed – the Marion City police chief (not the county sheriff as was stated in the podcast) who led the search was recently hired from Kansas City, Mo. He was being investigated by the Marion Record because he had been under investigation in KCMO for sexual abuse. The KCMO PD  was going to bust him from commander to sergeant, which he preempted by getting the job as police chief in Marion. The newspaper had not published the material but had provided it to the city council before he was hired. Was the aggressive search of the newspaper revenge for the newspaper’s investigation of the local police chief?

Thanks for your comment, and thanks for listening. I did know of that in fact, just didn’t get to it. Have a glorious weekend. Dennis

It’s such a complicated story with so many players that it’s hard to get all the threads in without overwhelming the podcast. I’m a local, so I’ve been immersed in it.

Thanks for doing the story and bringing out the the national implications.
