I have got a ton of questions at my talk "Implementing Clean Architecture" at #PeakIT006 (details here: oncodedesign.com/PeakIT006) I think there were about 5 minutes at the end, just answering questions, using the extra slides I had prepared for the Q&A part (yes, I like to have at hand, slides from my training materials that help answering questions in conference talks 💡) Several developers / architects / DevOps engineers approached on the hallways to ask for advice or just to discuss their specific project contexts. As a speaker it feels great to get questions 🌞 Most of the questions were like: 🤚 Did you try X in your project? 🤚 Did you deal with Y in your projects? 🤚 In the projects you did, how was Z done? 🤚 I have this context. How would you handle it? Reflecting on this, I once again confirm that the greatest value of workshops and customized training comes from the project experience of the trainer. It’s like you're directely taking from their experience. Attending a workshop or having customized training specific to your project needs is more valuable than reading books, articles, or watching video tutorials because it is interactive. This applies even to well-known topics like Clean Architecture or SOLID Principles, because you can get an experienced software engineer's perspective on how they apply to your needs and context. To teach software design practices, patterns, or principles, they need to be abstracted from project contexts so they are generic and simple enough to be explained and exemplified. Once understood, you need to adapt them back to your project context to apply them. Here, a trainer's guidance is of high value. This motivates me to continue to include my project experience in my training. I believe this is what makes it unique and successful. I would be curious to get their perspective on this from Engineering Managers, HR and others that have in their focus helping developers to be better. Please share your thoughts in the comments!
