MLB Props and Pick'em

Peterson has been on an incredible run, posting a 1.81 ERA over 7 starts since the beginning of August. He's been piling up ground balls all season, but he's improved his contact metrics in this recent run. Peterson has trimmed his barrel rate and average exit velocity to below-league-average marks. He's also cut the BB% to 7.8% since the start of August, down from an unacceptable 11%. The strikeouts are average, but everything else makes Peterson look like a strong bet to keep pitching well.

By limiting hard contact and getting ground balls, Peterson has been able to work deep into games consistently. He had only completed 6 innings in 4 of his first 10 starts, but he's now gone 6+ innings in 5 straight and 6 of his last 7 starts. Peterson's only miss in that stretch was an inefficient outing in Coors Field, which can be excused given the venue.

Toronto was one of the more patient lineups early in the season, but they've fallen to below league average in pitches seen per plate appearance. The Blue Jays rank 25th in OPS, wOBA, and wRC+ against lefties since the start of July.

New York hasn't had a day off since Thursday and their bullpen has been worked pretty hard in that stretch. They've had an extra-inning game and had to use their closer (Edwin Diaz) three times in the past 4 games. He's almost certainly going to be down tonight. High-leverage options Jose Butto and Ryne Stanek both pitched yesterday. The Mets could certainly use some volume from Peterson here.
