Masterwork armour is a full set of degradable power armour that requires 90 Defence to be worn. It requires 99 Smithing and completion of the It Should Have Been Called Aetherium achievement to create. It is the second-strongest smithable melee armour outside of Daemonheim.

Each piece of masterwork armour has 100,000 charges of combat, which lasts approximately 55 hours in average combat. Once augmented, Masterwork equipment does not degrade and can be used infinitely unlike trimmed masterwork armour. It is used as a component to create Trimmed masterwork armour.

New armour is tradable. When first equipped a warning popup window opens: Equipping this armour will mean you can no longer trade it. It will become tradable when degraded completely to a broken state; also if completely repaired. The Exchange price is different for new and broken armour. Augmented armour is also not tradable.

Masterwork armour is superior to Torva armour as it offers tier 90 bonuses over Torva's tier 80, and is cheaper and far superior in terms of both defence and attack bonuses.

Sirenic armour is the ranged equivalent, and tectonic armour is the magic equivalent. Masterwork armour cannot be dyed. It can be fixed by Repair NPCs, such as Bob in Lumbridge, or at an armour stand in a player-owned house.

Augmented[edit | edit source]

The masterwork platebody and platelegs can be augmented by adding an augmentor. When augmented, they can be used infinitely without degradation, unlike trimmed masterwork armour.

Unlocking masterwork[edit | edit source]

Masterwork armour can only be made after completing the achievement It Should Have Been Called Aetherium - making a full set of elder rune equipment + 5. Upgrading all single pieces from +4 to +5 will unlock this achievement. The achievement is a requirement for the completionist cape.

Alloy bars[edit | edit source]

The first step in the creation of masterwork armour is smelting concentrated alloy bars. It takes one bronze, iron, steel, mithril, adamant, rune, orikalkum, necronium, bane, and elder rune bar to produce one concentrated alloy bar. A total of 600 of each are required to make a set of masterwork armour. If smelting bars from scratch, 1,200 rune bars are needed as 600 of those are a required ingredient for elder rune bars.

The next step is creating enriched alloy bars. Five concentrated alloy bars are required to produce one enriched alloy bar. Once ten enriched alloy bars are made, they can be used to forge an immaculate alloy bar. Twelve immaculate alloy bars are required to make the masterwork armour set.

After smithing an immaculate alloy bar, it must be folded at any anvil to start a partially folded alloy bar which must be folded 1,001 times. The bar appears in the inventory and may be stored in the bank or dropped; it cannot be deposited in the metal bank. Moving the mouse pointer over the bar shows the folding progress: number/1,001. The smithing process does only 60 folds at a time at two game ticks per fold. Once the alloy bar has been folded 1,001 times, it turns into a glorious bar.

Masterwork materials[edit | edit source]

Glorious bars then go through five more smithing processes to make a lined masterwork armour piece needed to make the final armour item.

If the unfinished smithing item is at 100% heat, each hammer strike adds 20 progress. As heat is lost at 66% and 33%, your progress reduces to 16 or 13 per strike, respectively. At 0% heat each strike adds 10 progress; see heat mechanics.

Unfinished masterwork[edit | edit source]

One or more lined masterwork armour pieces are needed to make any single piece of masterwork armour. Once the process is started, an unfinished masterwork armour piece is made for the respective slot. Once an unfinished masterwork armour piece is made, it must be riveted with masterwork rivets (requiring 120 rivets for a full set), made from steel bars. Once riveted, it can be made into the final masterwork armour piece.

Trimmed masterwork[edit | edit source]

Masterwork equipment can be upgraded into trimmed masterwork equipment, which is tier 92 power armour. This is done by combining masterwork equipment parts with masterwork armour trim, made from elder rune bars, malevolent essence, (made from malevolent armour) and praesulic essence (melee) (made from Torva armour).

A full set of trimmed masterwork consumes 12 trim, which requires the equivalent of a set of torva and a set of malevolent.

Trimmed masterwork is repaired using a piece of untrimmed masterwork. It additionally has a set effect (turning some incoming damage into a damage-over-time effect instead of a lump sum) and the ability to custom-fit (making the armour permanently untradeable but degrade much more slowly).

Degradation and repair[edit | edit source]

Augmented masterwork equipment does not degrade and uses the divine charge drain system instead.

Masterwork armour degrades as it is used. Equipment smithed is fully repaired and can be used for 100,000 charges of combat until it degrades completely and requires repair before it can be used again; it does not suffer in performance as it degrades from fully repaired to fully degraded. Additionally, Masterwork armour may only be traded if fully repaired or fully degraded. Items lose 20% charge if reclaimed from a gravestone after dying.

There are two ways to repair Masterwork armour. Players can talk to any of the NPCs listed below and they will repair the items for a price, or repair the pieces themselves using an armour stand in any player-owned house for a reduced cost based on their Smithing level. The equipment can be repaired at any stage, and the cost will be adjusted according to how much it has degraded. The repair costs below are as if the equipment has fully degraded.

The following NPCs can repair the armour:
