EPR (nuclear reactor)

Frae Wikipedia, the free beuk o knawledge
Reactor pressure vessel o the EPR

The EPR is a third generation pressurized watter reactor (PWR) design. It has been designed an developed mainly bi Framatome (part of Areva atween 2001 an 2017) an Électricité de France (EDF) in Fraunce, an Siemens in Germany. In Europe, this reactor design was called European Pressurised Reactor, an the internationalised name was Evolutionary Power Reactor, but it is now simply cried EPR.

Four EPR units are under construction. The first two, in Finland an Fraunce, are both facing costly construction delays (tae at least 2018). Construction commenced on two units in Cheenae in 2009 an 2010. The Cheenae units were tae start operations in 2014 an 2015,[1] but are now expected tae come online in 2018 an 2019. Two units at Hinkley Point C nuclear pouer station in the Unitit Kinrick received final approval in September 2016 an are expected tae be completed bi 2025.

EDF has acknowledged severe difficulties in building the EPR design. In September 2015 EDF stated that the design o a "New Model" EPR was being worked on, which will be easier an cheaper tae build.
