Austrian EBNER GROUP invests heavily in Norway with the support of Innovation Norway 📈 Under the new ownership of EBNER GROUP, Arctic Sapphire AS will establish a state-of-the-art sapphire plant in Sulitjelma to produce high purity sapphire crystals for semiconductor display applications such as LED and consumer electronics. In order to strengthen #Norway's position in the global semiconductor industry, Innovation Norway has approved a comprehensive financing package for Arctic Sapphire AS to finance the pilot plant. EBNERs new technology will significantly reduce both energy and material consumption compared to today's standards. Zero-emission production will be utilising 100% green Norwegian hydropower. The master’s students of FHV - Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences embarked on a five-day study tour, "Innovation Ecosystem," from September 2-6, 2024, in Tallinn and Helsinki. In collaboration with Prof. Thomas Metzler, Ph.D., the ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA offices in #Tallinn and Helsinki provided the students with a comprehensive exploration of the innovative ecosystems in both countries, focusing on the startup landscape. 🦄 The dive into the Finnish Startup scene included visits to prominent startup hubs and institutions, such as: Maria 01 - Northern Europe's leading startup hub, Aalto University – Home to Startup Hub A Grid - A network of entrepreneurs and investors, Aalto Ventures Program and Startup Sauna as well as VTT LaunchPad – A science-based incubator. #Helsinki offered its best – pure sunshine and summer heat, creating the perfect atmosphere. The group used this “weather” opportunity and was enthusiastic and receptive about interactive discussions that were organized as open discussions outdoors, with Finnish Business Angels Network (FiBAN) – largest and most active business angel network, Hoxhunt – technology company providing cybersecurity training software solutions. Key takeaways were: 👉 importance of collaboration between companies, startups, universities, research institutes, and the government in fostering a thriving startup ecosystem. 👉 Investors, who play a crucial role, often acting as accelerators and mentors in addition to providing capital. Austrian oil and gas company OMV announced a #gas discovery in the Norwegian Sea ☝ Located 300 km west of the Norwegian mainland, the deepwater well is positioned at a depth of 1,064 m. The discovery is about 65 km from existing infrastructure, including the Polarled pipeline and the Aasta Hansteen field, potentially allowing for a swift and cost-effective development. The medical technology company Ottobock has been passionately 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗹𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝘀. 🤝 Joint forces at the Sermilik research station in Greenland 🧊 The University of Graz is pursuing its efforts to study the Arctic, a region with a profound impact on Europe's climate. In collaboration with the University of Copenhagen (Københavns Universitet), they have embarked on an expansion of the Sermilik research station in eastern Greenland. A new building, designed and constructed with Austrian expertise, is being raised close to the existing 1970s station, increasing the capacity more than fourfold with room for 25 scientists. Sustainability is key, with solar panels ensuring a reliable, eco-friendly supply of electricity, heat, and water.
